Folk Yoga School (Formerly Yoga Garden SF) empowers you to teach your style of yoga. Our alignment-based hatha yoga teacher training originates from the teachings of Krishnamacharya, the teacher of B.K.S. Iyengar (Iyengar yoga), Pattabhi Jois (Ashtanga yoga) and T.V.K. Desikachar (viniyoga). This gives you a solid foundation of technical excellence combined with philosophical depth, enabling you to teach your practice. Your yoga teacher training is a time for personal learning and growth, but we have found that the greatest gains are made in a supportive community. Yoga Garden’s yoga teacher training actively nurtures a community of professional peers that will support your practice and your career, today and tomorrow. Yoga Garden offers smaller, intimately-sized teacher training programs, which provide you with unparalleled access to lead teachers during the program and ongoing mentorship and career advice well beyond the program completion. You will begin “practice teaching” your peers early in the training. Through real classroom experience teaching groups and offering hands-on adjustments, you will gain the confidence and ability to begin teaching yoga immediately upon graduation. Learn how yoga works and ignite your passion for self discovery and service to others. See also Yoga Garden SF Kids for our Children's Yoga program RCYT.

Reviews

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

Feedback from trainees provides Registered Yoga Schools with the opportunity to understand their trainees’ experiences in order to continually improve their trainings.

By choosing to display comments, schools enable trainees to provide insight into a school’s culture and training which helps potential trainees choose the right teacher training for their individual path with yoga.

Yoga Garden does a great job of bringing together the principles of Hatha Yoga with the philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga, as well as modern anatomy and science to create a holistic program. The program also values diversity, and generates some of the most highly skilled teachers. The teachers here are absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend.

I thought the YTT-200 at Yoga Garden was high quality. The program had the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. There is a good balance of discussion, practice, and online work. As I would expect in San Francisco, I thought the teachers had a diverse array of styles and experience. The cohort was also diverse and this is very intentional. I enjoyed the emphasis on diversity, cultural sensitivity, and spiritual practice that I did not find in other corporate YTT programs. The cohort are people I still talk to and would come back for more training programs in the future.

I was very happy with my YTT at Yoga Garden. It was a comprehensive, well rounded course that went into the required detail and taught me so much about my own practice as well.

The education for my 200 hr ytt was comprehensive and worthwhile! It was very useful to take such a deep dive into the postures and philosophies of yoga. I liked that the teachers I learned from had such a wide variation of teaching styles. I think for others in the program, it was hard to not have one uniform teaching method taught to them. Personally, I benefited from the variation of thought behind yoga, and I think it was a good example of what we experience in the yoga community at large. I also highly appreciated that it was a 30 day immersion program, which is why I personally chose the school. Not many schools in San Fransisco offer that kind of training, and I am grateful that I did it this way.

There is no better training option in SF in my humble opinion. The staff, atmosphere and energy are all so inviting and friendly… The course material was taught exceptionally - Thank You YGSF!!! :)

Yoga Garden SF was a wonderful place to complete my 200HR certification. All the teachers were very knowledgeable and each gave a unique perspective on the history and theory of yoga. It was a well rounded program and I left feeling prepared to start teaching!
