Yoga Alliance (YA), a member-based association that advances the development and livelihood of yoga professionals and advocates for safety and accessibility in yoga, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its team. We are celebrating our twentieth anniversary this year and are experiencing a moment of exciting growth and transformation.


What You'll Do

You will report to the Controller and be a member of the team responsible for all aspects of the general ledger, financial reporting, and other accounting activities. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that deadlines are met, that work is completed in a timely and accurate manner, and that we operate in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage weekly cash receipts, other receivables, and the miscellaneous cash reconciliation process between Association Management Software (AMS), other accounting software, merchant accounts, and Yoga Alliance’s banking institutions (the process includes recognizing and analyzing revenue, reconciling cash, reporting cash position, and forecasting cash disbursements)
  • Reconcile and analyze various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Facilitate the processing of member refunds
  • Analyze accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy of financial data
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the general ledger and financial reporting structure
  • Prepare assigned schedules for monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
  • Provide financial guidance and support for YA’s staff, vendors, and customers
  • Manage the disbursement process for all external and internal vendors through the cloud disbursement system, Bill.com
  • Verify that employee expenses are accurate, reasonable, and within YA’s guidelines
  • Adhere to the organization’s accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with the accounting operations of the Yoga Alliance Foundation, especially its control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
  • Assist with the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and production of the 990s for both the 501(c)3 and (c)6
  • Assist with special projects, assignments, and other duties as required
  • Contribute to the culture of YA’s core values including Seva (service), Integrity, Equity, Inquiry, and Unity

What You Have

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or at minimum two years of experience in an accounting department environment
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and finance rules and statements, particularly as they relate to 501(c)(6)s and 501(c)(3)s
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and formulate approaches to problem resolution
  • Knowledge of Intacct, Bill.com, and Tallie; cloud accounting software a plus
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office products
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform detailed-oriented and accurate work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

We are celebrating our twentieth anniversary this year and are experiencing a moment of exciting growth and transformation.


What You'll Do

You’ll report to the COO and be responsible for oversight and management of all company corporate legal and regulatory matters and work closely with the Accountability team and our external legal counsel to provide legal guidance on trademark violations, sexual misconduct claims and other associated member grievances.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise management on general organizational contracts, third-party agreements, and vendor supplier relationships
  • Bring and pursue lawsuits, including draft/argue pre-trial motions, handle depositions, participate in trial with/without a jury, and handle appeals in conjunction with external legal counsel
  • Manage general litigation and external counsel relationships
  • Assist management with employment law concerns, claims, and company policies
  • Ensure compliance with trademarks, patents, intellectual property, and trade secrets
  • Create business legal reports and correspondence and effectively present information to senior management
  • Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers, and the business community
  • Research and anticipate legal risks

What You'll Have

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in legal studies or related field
  • Virginia State Bar membership: current, valid, and in good standing
  • 5+ years’ experience in a law firm environment
  • Strong experience with drafting and executing contracts, corporate governance, and general corporate matters
  • Experience in compliance, trademark, defamation, and employment laws preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Administrative and managerial experience preferred
  • Subject matter knowledge on the field of yoga preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong computer skills
  • Professional attitude and exemplary personal ethics
