Yoga Alliance (YA) is a voluntary, member-based international association of more than 100,000 yoga schools and teachers that advances yoga professionals' development and livelihoods and advocates for the high quality, safe, accessible, and equitable teaching and practice of yoga everywhere.

Yoga Alliance Foundation (YAF), a related 501(c)(3) public charity, is an emerging field leader in yoga-based social impact, with a goal to bring yoga’s healing potential to populations that have historically been marginalized from yoga spaces and practice and create new service opportunities for YA members. We are adjusting to the new norms many of us are experiencing across the globe and finding creative solutions to support our members and the yoga community. YAF is currently seeking a Program Director to join our team.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Yoga Alliance Foundation (YAF) Program Director you will report to the YAF Managing Director and collaborate with YA/F staff to execute on a shared vision and to achieve YAF goals. Your primary responsibility is to lead and execute programs that align with the Managing Director’s and CEO’s strategic vision while enlisting and guiding additional YA/F staff as needed. You will also run programmatic efforts to expand access to yoga and foster a more welcoming, supportive, safe, and equitable yoga community.

Responsibilities:

All work listed below is executed on behalf of YAF, in collaboration with other YA staff, and under the guidance of the relevant team/project leads and/or YAF Managing Director.

  • Run projects, pilots, and programs for YAF, including delegation to other YAF staff and coordination with other YA departments. Potential project areas include:
    • “Teaching for Equity” program, followed by other economic recovery activities
    • Phase 3 of YAF’S COVID-19 response (details TBD – will likely focus on rebuilding and reimagining a more equitable, diverse, and economically sustainable yoga industry and community; may entail pilot projects with YAF serving as an incubator)
  • Lead the following areas of work:
    • Strategic planning and program design
      • Synthesize input from external stakeholders to inform YAF strategy and program design
      • Implement theory of change exercise to drive YAF strategy & initiatives
    • Outreach
      • Manage and expand networks with collaborators and stakeholders in yoga outreach, including but not limited to:
    • groups/individuals advancing equity within yoga and expanding yoga access
    • social impact leaders and change-makers who can partner in yoga outreach and to advance equity in yoga
    • community partners and stakeholders who can facilitate the sustainability of outreach programs
      • Steward YA/F relationships with collaborators, stakeholders, current and prospective partners
      • Through professional activities and personal networks, identify and introduce prospective collaborators to YA/F
      • Convene collaborators, partners, and/or stakeholders through outreach events and activities
      • Represent YAF in events, meetings, and other external activities as needed
      • Develop and implement strategies to engage YA members in YAF outreach efforts
    • Impact-tracking
      • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of YAF programs and initiatives
      • Lead storytelling about the impact of YAF programs and initiatives. Specific responsibilities may include:
    • Writing summary reports covering specific topics
    • Interviewing grantees
    • Producing videos or feature stories highlighting grantee projects
    • Direct implementation of other YAF strategic/programmatic activities as needed, most likely in the following areas:
      • Equity in yoga
      • YAF fundraising & development
    • Manage the following YAF team members, including directing their activities and ensuring accountability for execution on all work responsibilities:
      • Development associate
      • Coordinator

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience running and leading programs
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience building and working with program/department budgets, including at least 3 years of primary responsibility for spending against project budgets
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in complex project management spanning multiple departments
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant administration (from the perspective of grant-maker, grant-seeker, or both), including reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and donor-grantee relationship management
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to direct and inspire others towards a common goal, and proven experience in this arena
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, careful judgment
  • Strong orientation towards teamwork and collaboration, willingness to prioritize team / institutional needs and interests ahead of individual interests
  • Familiarity with YAF tools for managing projects, files, and communications
