Soma Yoga Institute offers 200 hour and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs.

The 200 Hour Therapeutic Elements Yoga Teacher Training includes vinyasa flow, bio-mechanically sound alignment principles and the path of Yoga as a framework for Holistic Health. This program offers students in-depth skills to explore Yoga as a vehicle for vibrant health, self-transformation, and personal empowerment. Our curriculum includes a unique blend of alignment based vinyasa flow, a solid foundation in Hatha Yoga and 200 hours of instruction offered within a holistic wellness framework. The instruction will cover a wide range of yoga techniques including yoga postures, anatomy, relaxation, breath awareness, pranayama, meditations to calm the mind, contemplations to transform limiting tendencies into life affirming thought patterns, and the application of clear principles of alignment to create safety, balance and freedom in yoga poses. Students explore concepts from Ayurveda, the Upanishads, Patanjali and the Chakra System as frameworks for the application of yoga as a journey towards radiant health and wellbeing. The asana emphasis includes both level one/two alignment based vinyasa flow sequencing as well as gentler and restorative variations. Rather than offer standard sequencing or rigid methodologies, students are exposed to frameworks that inspire each trainee to adapt the practices, awaken their creativity and find their own authentic voice as a teacher. Graduates of this program feel empowered to teach a variety of yoga class types, including: all levels vinyasa yoga, alignment-based classes, yoga foundations, senior, gentle, and restorative.

The 300 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training course is designed specifically for those who are ready to deepen their knowledge base, teach with more authenticity, expand their repertoire and increase their efficacy in offering yoga as a vehicle for positive personal and planetary transformation and change. The program is open to yoga teachers from all disciplines with six months or more teaching experience (or by permission).

Reviews

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

I'm much more inspired to develop my ever evolving and consistent yoga practice as a supplement to my personal, professional and spiritual life. The most unique experience for me was that I wasn't totally confident I could ever truly teach yoga...I was more in it for personal development I would say. The way the training was laid out and the encouragement to consider how yoga can authentically benefit so many people with both their internal and physical journey really caught my attention and quite honestly opened me up to a new direction in my own life I hadn't considered. I now know that yoga, like the qi arts in TCM, is a discipline and practice that is both scientific and artful and a wonderful way to open up the whole of human life to a person including the twilight years of this existence. As a mental health practitioner, I know that if I could help someone access yoga for themselves it would only benefit any other work they would want to do in order to be mentally resilient and emotionally regulated as well.

The class was extremely informative and comprehensive. The course in Greece was incredibly engaging and enjoyable. The two weeks spent with Yoga Soma Institute is one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences of my lifetime. I cannot wait to take the 500 course with them.

My life has been permanently changed by this 200 Hour YTT experience. I understand yoga at a much deeper level and through many lenses and layers now, making my relationship with myself and others more rich, whole, compassionate, and loving. I enjoyed everything about it. The SalvaTierra location in Costa Rica is perfect, the staff was amazing, the food was delicious and plentiful. The curriculum was comprehensive, compelling and empowering. I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel so much more confident in my own practice and my understanding of alignment and how to craft an incredible authentic class. I love yoga philosophies, alignment, sequencing, Ayurveda, chair yoga, restorative, Hatha/Vinyasa, practice teaching and yoga asana classes from Jess and Liz to integrate what we learned through physical practice. I am so grateful to Liz and Jess and my incredible fellow yogis. I love you all. I am transformed because of this experience - Jessamy

This teacher training program helped instill personal confidence through carefully designed practice teach challenges that began the first week, and built into a natural “teach from your own body” and “share from your own journey” style of Yoga teaching. The program was enlightening and personal and very enjoyable.

Soma Yoga Institute was a dream for me. I live in a remote, rural area and there is no yoga school close to me. Being able to enroll online and spend ten months with the material and group meetups, was life-saving and -affirming for me. Every member of the faculty I met with is a very sincere and experienced practitioner and there are decades' worth of quality knowledge here. The lifelong access to the quality material, is absolutely priceless. Trans and gender-nonconforming practitioners: please do interview the staff and ask detailed questions before enrolling. At the time I write this. the school did not seem to have a very sophisticated awareness of inclusive language or pronouns, nor any trans or nonbinary faculty. That said, I discussed these issues with the founder and believed her to be sincere in exploring this further. Soma Yoga not only granted me my credentials, they were a grounding feature in my life for the better part of my 2022. I can't overstate how much I learned, and how encouraged I felt during this time. Thank you Soma, and may we meet again soon!

The Soma Yoga 300-hour advance yoga teacher training online is a comprehensive yoga teacher program that enabled individuals from various programs and backgrounds to enjoy and succeed in their future endeavors. This online program utilized advanced technological resources to provide successful effective teaching to meet geographical and global challenges such as various time zones, students’ engagements and health related restrictions associated with pandemics. In addition, the 300-hour program is well designed to accommodate students globally regardless of where and when they completed their 200 hour training or their teaching experience thus far. On a personal note, I have practiced yoga for several years and was fortunate to complete the Soma 200 hour teaching program. The 300-hour advance program has enriched my knowledge and practice even more. I much appreciate the depth of the various modules and well-rounded program as it is tailored to the teaching of this unique ancient practice. The Soma program provides students not just with a deep understanding of the philosophy, the history, anatomy, alignment, and sequencing to address specific conditions. it also offers students high level practice classes taught by top superb teachers in the field. In addition, I highly appreciate the inclusion of specialized modules with a deep dive into the pelvic floor and the five diaphragms, yoga for the private client, mindfulness and G.R.A.C.E, prana, pranayama and the prana vayus, and trauma. Learning from five outstanding instructors is indeed a privilege wrapped with pleasure and joy. As I engaged in this unique opportunity, my vision and outlook at yoga have expanded above and beyond expectations. It became obvious that everyone can benefit from this practice regardless of physical condition or level of body flexibility or emotional state. In addition, the learning tools, such as handouts, practice teach methods, poses analyses, usage of props, coaching and mentoring are of high value to learner at all levels. Yin and restorative yoga, mindfulness & G.R.A.C.E, and practices to address the needs of individuals with traumas, anxiety, depression are fascinating and rare to find in regular yoga teaching facilities. These are exciting avenues to further explore the endless of benefits to support quality of life, wellbeing, and promote freedom from suffering.

I loved the thoughtful schooling, the connection to spirituality, focus on alignment, and the chance to practice teach a class. My relationship to yoga has strengthened during a critical period of my life, and it is exactly what I need to help me become the woman I want to be as well as to take care of myself through all life phases. This program gave me the confidence I need to become a teacher and teaching makes me incredibly happy. I am excited to bring it into my life. I enjoyed self-study because it enabled me to dive deeper and to have some solitude during the busy days. I would return to Soma Yoga Institute in the future and recommend the training to others because the teachers were incredibly knowledgeable. This program also had perfect food, housing and a magical studio space. This program was so very worthwhile, and the training was so well run and professional. The teachers inspire me to be the best I can be and it was helpful to have such wonderful role models. —Jessica

From the alignment videos, to sequencing, to yin to yoga nidra, and everything in between! I loved everything about this training. As a busy mother of two, I really appreciated that it was solely online. Not only so that I was able to work at my own pace, but also because I now have those videos and that knowledge kept forever online in one place! That alone was worth it to me. I have formed beautiful friendships from this program and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn under so many talented humans! Having different teachers for different subjects was very nice, in my opinion. Kept things fresh! I know this is just the beginning of my journey, and I am so happy that it started with Soma!

I would absolutely recommend this program to any student who is interested in deepening their practice through a therapeutic lens. The curriculum was comprehensive across anatomy, asanas, transitions, alignment, yoga history, somatics and more. Each of my instructors was engaging, responsive, and brought their own unique wisdom to the party. Lots of opportunity for engaging with peers during live calls.
