About Alka Kaminer

One of my initial intentions for pursuing yoga teaching and being a dedicated student for over 15 years was to serve my aging parents.  I observed that they were slowing down and not as active as they used to be.  After the first day of my graduation, I was thrilled and happy to be going to their home to teach them yoga.  I was in for a surprise.  They were very hesitant about getting on the floor, mentioning knee replacement, heart conditions, body stiffness and fear of not being able to get back up, just to name a few.  This got me thinking "What do the 65 and over do? How do they do yoga?"  I could sense their anxiety and fear of aging. My parents and this experience inspired me to educate myself further on serving the aging population.  I have gone on to study with amazing teachers to expand my awareness of the aging body, arthritis, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, restrictions due to surgery or limited movement and more.  In addition, training in meditation and mindfulness to serve the mind along with the body.  I am so grateful for their wisdom and insight.  Over the many years I have been teaching, my students have been my truest gift.  They have inspired me to be the best that I can be so that we can all Be Healthy, Be Joyful, Be Connected.

After my initial RYT200, I have gone on to get certifications in Chair Yoga, Yoga for Arthritis, Yoga for Seniors, Advanced Anatomy Training, Restorative yoga, Teen Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation, Myofascial Ball Therapy,  along with my RYT500.  I am also a Reiki healer and will soon be starting my 300 hr. Ayurveda Yoga teacher training through Kripalu.  I have taken all my trainings and personal experiences and combined them into a mat or chair yoga class that is fun, engaging, inspiring, creative, educational and empowering to the students.  Along with creating strength, flexibility and balance I focus on breathing to help reduce anxiety & stress.

I hope to offer a 30 hr Yoga for the Aging Teacher training to empower you, the instructor to go out there and safely serve the aging population.
