The Yoga Association of Alberta (YAA) is a non-profit charitable organization that has been supporting and offering yoga in Alberta since 1976. The YAA promotes high standards of yoga instruction through teacher training and equivalency certification and works in co-operation with individuals and yoga communities practising all recognized yoga disciplines.

The YAA’s Teacher Training Program is a flexible pay-as-you-go program where you have the choice of online or in-person modules along with workshops, classes and a one-on-one practicum and ongoing study with a mentor of your choice - someone who may be close to home and teaches in a lineage or style you wish to emulate.

The YAA TTP is a 200-Hour mentorship-based program taken over a minimum of two years, which allows time for practicing new skills and integration of knowledge, rather than a short-term intensive program.  Core Curriculum classes taught by Senior Teachers are held once a month on a Saturdays, 9:30am-3:30pm, in-person in Edmonton or anywhere in Alberta on Zoom. They rotate on a two-year schedule and the program may be started at any time of the year.  Teaching Skills Workshops and specialized workshops with acclaimed International Teachers are also offered on weekends.

Students also choose from qualified teachers across Alberta for personal mentorship and additional workshop hours to customize their training according to their own particular needs and interests. One-on-one interaction with a teacher over a long period of time is traditionally an integral part of the process of learning yoga, and even more important when learning to teach yoga.  So much more than just physical training, this relationship guides your Self-Realization, true to the authentic teachings of yoga.  Consider this will serve you and your students for a lifetime. Great teachers study with great teachers.

Advanced Training Levels are available at the 500-, 750- and 1,000-Hour Levels and credit for previous training is available through our Equivalency Certification Program.

The YAA has an amazing group of experienced Senior Yoga Teachers and I highly recommend this quality school for teacher certification. I have been associated with the YAA since around 2002 and value their standards of excellence! Full Review

This training has created wonderful yoga teachers who are perceived by the public and other yoga instructors as well-trained, knowledgeable, caring, respectful, and continual learners. While it takes time to complete this training, the benefits of having time to integrate the teachings as well as the exposure to various teachers and skills are well worth the effort and investment.
