Endorsed by Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Andrew Weil, and Jean Houston, Ph.D., YogaKids is the world's original training program for kids yoga teachers. . Our mission is to promote peace, healthy life-style, self-empowerment and a fun, effective way of learning to children. Unlike yoga for adults, the YogaKids program specifically supports the capacities of children of all ages. . The idea of yoga, breathing and mindfulness as powerful tools for change in the classroom began in 1986 by Marsha Wenig while teaching poetry to children in a Los Angeles elementary school. After years of research, the study of numerous educators such as John Dewey, Maria Montessori, Rudolf Steiner, Magda Gerber and Howard Gardner, along with lessons gleaned from hundreds of children, the company was founded in 1991 with one simple idea; help kids make a better world through yoga. . The YogaKids training program has influenced the lives of thousands of graduates, certified teachers and has revolutionized the way yoga is taught to children. Recognized three times by the Parents’ Choice Awards, our videos and other products have introduced more than a million children, their families and through them their communities, to the peace that yoga brings.
CREATING YOGAKIDS TEACHERS
The first YogaKids DVD revolutionized the way yoga is taught to children and created a demand for the founders’ unique skills. As a result, YogaKids became the first yoga-for-children training company, offering workshops to educators, parents, and child-focused professionals. YogaKids has developed a preeminent certification process creating a global network of highly-trained facilitators who bring classes, programs, and trainings to communities and schools. YOGA IN THE CLASSROOM
In 2006, the company launched the YogaKids Tools for Schools Program. Designed for children ages 5-12, the program provides educators with tools to educate the “whole child.” Integrating yoga into the classroom setting helps students excel academically, socially, and physically. Indiana and Purdue Universities studied the program and concluded: “Yogakids Tools for Schools has a significant positive effect on the academic achievement, general health, personal attributes, and relationships of students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
GIVING THE POWER OF YOGA
In 2009, the founders of YogaKids created a non-profit organization called Go Give Yoga. The organization’s current international work is in Haiti, where teams of volunteer yoga teachers work directly with extremely impoverished children. By educating, empowering and transforming communities-in-need through yoga, Go Give Yoga breathes life, light and love into the lives of children on a global scale.
