Square One Yoga is a mission-driven business, committed to making yoga completely accessible to the entire community. We were open with in-person locations in the Bay Area for 15 years and now offer teacher training, workshops, and retreat online.

About our Yoga Teacher Training Program:

The faculty of our program is committed to putting the person in front of us first. That means that the curriculum and methodoly that is taugh and modeled is designed to be completely accessible and inviting to a broad range of students. Accessibility has a lot to do with how we teach poses, of course. But we take accessibility to a deeper and more subtle level: how are the teachings inviting, not just to a wide range of bodies, but to a wide range of human beings with all our complexities, psyches, and emotional constitutions? In other words, yes, let’s teach poses in a way that invites people with all manner of physical abilities to practice, and let’s also make sure that the way we teach and the way we create spaces for yoga are inviting for people emotionally as well.

We understand that accessibility means safety. If we do not feel emotionally and physically safe in a space, it is actually not accessible to us. Our job as a yoga school is to create an environment that is accessible because it is a safe place for students to bring their entire selves. That means our classes and our programs strive to be body positive, trauma-informed, socially aware, and respectful of the culture that brought us this practice.

Reviews

As part of the Yoga Alliance Social Credentialing system, teachers that register with Yoga Alliance must submit a review of the RYS training program they completed.

Feedback from trainees provides Registered Yoga Schools with the opportunity to understand their trainees’ experiences in order to continually improve their trainings.

By choosing to display comments, schools enable trainees to provide insight into a school’s culture and training which helps potential trainees choose the right teacher training for their individual path with yoga.

The program was structured and provided both in-person and online sessions. It provided a cohesive environment for the cohort to learn and share together. I feel bonded to the other students and highly value the experience.

Square One Yoga created such a positive environment that felt self and inclusive for teacher training. All the instructors were great and inspirational, so experienced and educated in the subjects they taught. Instructors were always happy to spend time and answer any questions students had and were so encouraging! In the beginning I often wondered how I was going to learn all this information and now after graduating, I have so much confidence about teaching yoga to carry with me out into the world. Thank you Katy Cryer!

This teacher training was amazing! I loved the focus on making the practice accessible for all people, considering bodies, ability, age, trauma, experience and so much more. The variety in teachers and styles was helpful and insightful as I was finding my own style and niche in the practice. I learned so much and made so many wonderful connections. I would absolutely recommend this training.

I am so happy I decided to take my 200h training in this school! The teachers as well as the students in my group always made me feel accepted and supported, especially when I went through a tough experience of self discovery. I deeply appreciated the non judgmental, easy going and non pretentious atmosphere that this school provides. The course itself is a balance of asana practice, fact learning and diving into the philosophy of yoga through reading and discussion. My favorite part is that it does not take one set approach but rather provides a wide overview and an opportunity to dip into many branches and styles of yoga. It made it easy for me to decide where I wanted to go next and continue deepening my knowledge. Thank you Square Yoga for planting this seed and making me want to grow as a yoga practicioner and teacher.
