We Did It, Michigan! Our YTT Bill Is Law!
Last Updated: December 9, 2016
We are pleased to share some exciting news – Governor Rick Snyder signed Senate Bill 818 into law this week! Thank you to the Yoga Alliance® community and the diligent efforts of Michigan legislators for their overwhelming support. This legislation to protect the rights of yoga teacher training (YTT) programs to operate in Michigan without unnecessary intrusion is now law and effective on June 7, 2016. YTT programs are no longer regulated as “proprietary schools” by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). We are grateful to the lawmakers who supported this legislation and to Governor Snyder for signing it into law!
If you haven’t already, now is a great time to show your appreciation. Send a “thank you” email to our bill sponsors and committee chairs:
Thank Your Elected Representatives!
We also want to extend a big thank you to all of the Michigan yogis who have been involved in supporting this bill. We believe this bill not only helps small businesses, but the entire yoga community as well!
If you have any questions about what this bill means to you, please contact the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) at 517-241-4580 or by e-mail at OPLAInfo@michigan.gov. You can also reach us at yaadvocacy@yogaalliance.org with any other questions or suggestions.
Pay It Forward
Yoga Alliance is proud to have championed this bill. While YTTs in Michigan are now free from unnecessary regulation, other YTTs around the country are under pressure. Please help pay it forward with a financial contribution to make sure that yoga is protected across the country.
