Big Win for Michigan Yogis! House Passage of SB 818, Now on to the Governor's Desk!
Published on: May 17, 2016
We are pleased to share breaking news about Michigan Senate Bill 818! Today the Michigan House passed this legislation − which would exempt yoga teacher training programs from state vocational training regulations − by an overwhelming vote of 92-17! This development follows the Michigan Senate’s passage of the bill by a vote of 35-0 on April 13. Now that this bill, championed by Yoga Alliance, has been approved by both chambers of the Michigan Legislature, it will head to the Governor’s desk for his signature to become a law!
It’s time to show your appreciation for the hard work of the elected representatives who joined our effort to protect YTTs throughout the state by sending a “thank you” email to the legislators who made this possible. Below is the contact information for our bill sponsors and committee chairs:
We want to extend a big thank you to all of the Michigan yogis who have supported this bill, which not only helps small businesses, but the entire yoga community as well! Please stay tuned for more updates as we reach the finish line.
Yoga Alliance is proud to have joined the Michigan yoga community on this critical effort. While YTTs in this state will soon be free from unnecessary intrusion, other YTTs around the country are under pressure. In the coming days, Yoga Alliance will turn its attention to developments in other states threatening yoga businesses and their customers. Please help pay it forward with a financial contribution to make sure that yoga is not only protected in Michigan, but across the country
We’re proud to work on your behalf to protect our yoga community.
