About Shilpa Ghatalia

Shilpa is the founding owner of Yogshakti. She has been practicing yoga since 1988 and teaching in Kuala Lumpur since 1993. She is a Registered Yoga Alliance teacher qualified by the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy (USA). 


Over the last 26 years, she studied different styles of Yoga to include, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara, Yin and Scaraveli Inspired Yoga and delved deep into the practices of Meditation, Mindfulness, Pranayama, the Buteyko method; Yoga Nidra & Advaita Vedanta philosophy.Her keen interest in meditation led her to study directly with masters such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Swami Veda Bharati and Advaita sage Ramesh Balsekar. 

She went on to create Integrative Yoga which is a synthesis of the teachings of the Himalayan tradition of Swami Rama; Intuitive Yoga of Spinal freedom of Vanda Scaraveli; Taoist Yin Yoga; Zen Mindfulness tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Philosophy of Advaita Vedanta. Her Integrative yoga classes which are a combination of Yin and Yang can be both vigorous and gentle for flexibility and strength. The spine awakening techniques which are the highlight of her classes are inspired from the teachings of master teachers, Paddy Mcgrath and Diane Long. She combines this with specialised breathing practices to lead students into meditative silence.

She teaches yoga workshops locally and internationally. She trains teachers at Yogshakti in the Integrative style of Yoga. 

She also runs healthful vegetarian cookery classes incorporating principles of Ayurveda.
