Tamara Dowling

According to the yoga tradition, each one of us has 5 bodies, each layer made of more subtle energy. These layers are called Koshas.

About Tamara Dowling

I began my yoga practice in 1998 after a career in modern dance. Looking to return balance and vitality into my body I dove into the postures as described in Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar. From the beauty and depth of Iyengar's method of alignment, I was once more inspired to MOVE my body. I found excitement and energy in a daily Vinyasa Yoga practice studying with Rodney Yee, Sarah Powers, Johnny Kest and Baron Baptiste.

I explored the other limbs of yoga with pranayama and meditation. Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabati Breath, and Brahmari Breath were my first venture into subtle and powerful practices of breath discipline. My meditation practice has been grounded in Meta, Lovingkindness as outlined in Sharon Saltzberg's book of the same name.

In 2011 I wrote and implanted a yoga, meditation, movement and breathing curriculum for the Fortune School of Education in Oak Park California. The students at the school practiced every school day and I learned a lot of the value of consistency. The students learned to manage their focus, mood, reactions, anxiety and bodies with their daily dedication. In 2013 I was invited by the founder of the schools, Margaret Fortune, to expand the yoga program to a second school in Elk Grove.

From 2012-2017 I worked with an elite team at Health Psychology Sacramento which is an IOP (intensive outpatient program) for children, teams and adults living with various mental health challenges. I facilitated one to one yoga to support the patients in creating balance in their bodies and emotional health and stability in the mind. Play, Asana, Breathing, guided meditation, were all utilized to help the clients cope with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, eating and mood disorders, and digestive issues

In 2015 I joined the teaching staff at Corepower yoga in Fair Oaks California. Happy to return to my roots in power vinyasa yoga I thrived in the energetic and alignment methodology at CorePower. I became a yoga teacher training coach and eventually YTT Lead, running up to 6 programs each year training teachers. Through CorePower I was hired to train the Sacramento Rivercats, our local minor league Baseball Team. In 2017 I was promoted to General Manager for Corepower yoga Fair Oaks and Roseville, and grew our community and Yoga integrity until March 2020 when the pandemic forced our doors closed.

The pandemic has given me a pause to revisit my training. I begun my 1,000 hour YTT certification this year which I am excited to share with my students and clients. I will participate in the Kripalu training virtually until the campus is able to re-open sometime in 2021.

To me Yoga is unique... I like to train a room of yoga practitioners in challenging flows as much as I love working one to one with clients to balance the lifestyle. Yoga is so broad, and it is also unique to each of us. I like to think of my work as my fingerprint... my contribution to this practice which evolves while still resting on the tradition from all the gurus overtime.

I am currently teaching on Zoom. I work with a range in ages.

In January 2021, I will facilitate "Self Care w/ Pranayama Weekend Workshop" with my colleague Roxy Ring. Message me for deets!
