Tammy Keorkunian, MA, BA, E-CMT is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).
Tammy aka Shakti Devi is a certified and experienced early childhood music and movement teacher, and children's/grown-up yoga instructor. She is the founder and director of Children's Music Express, a parent and child music, movement and mindfulness program, which began in 2006. Tammy has been teaching parent/child, preschool, and family classes since 1999. She sings, plays guitar, and the African Djembe going on 20 years. Her classes are an educational experience through play and fun, which include musical, creative movement, mindfulness-based activities, and yoga.
Tammy has her MA in Applied Meditation Studies from the accredited graduate program, Won Institute of Graduate Studies and her BA in Communications and Theater from Temple University. Additionally, Tammy has studied with Marianne Torbert, developer of the Kinesiology program, "Meeting Children's Needs Through Movement" at Temple University. Tammy has also studied with Shakta Kaur Khalsa in the Radiant Child Yoga Immersion Program. She has studied at the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, with Shiva Das in Inner Fire Yoga, Ed Zadlo in Ayurveda, and David Newman in Bhakti Yoga and Kirtan.
Tammy teaches parent/child music and movement classes, children's yoga and meditation classes, preschool music and yoga classes, grown-up yoga and meditation classes, including programs for children with special needs, and Buddhist Meditation on the University level. She provides teacher trainings and workshops for teachers, parents, caregivers, and anyone passionate about teaching young children music, movement, yoga and mindfulness. Tammy engages and inspires audiences at birthday parities, special events, concert performances, and speaking engagements. Her studies and experience in early childhood music education, kinesiology, children's yoga/meditation/mindfulness instruction, and Buddhist meditation have shaped her unique, warm, and energetic, upbeat programs, teaching style, and teacher trainings.
