Sandra Thoma teaches with the mission to make Yoga accessible to all ages and all body types. She teaches the Iyengar Method of Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga simply means to connect the breath with physical movement. Iyengar Yoga uses props to assist students with stability and to facilitate proper body alignment to prevent injury while flowing through poses to gain strength and tone.
Sandra’s yoga journey began 23 years ago, following treatment for breast cancer. Physical therapy alone did not address her needs as a working Mom with young children. A Yoga video she found at the hospital library changed her life.
Since then, Yoga has served as a central and grounding part of her life.
In 2023, Sandra suffered a severe knee dislocation. She and her husband were deep into building their forever home, and she was in a wheelchair. She began again, with the basic Yoga pose, Standing on two feet.
The call to share the healing power of Yoga with others was clear. Sandra made her way to Downtown Yoga Studio in Johnson City, and in April completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification.
In a previous life, Sandra operated a particle accelerator, raced sailboats, and crunched data for a large healthcare company.
