My name is Krishna Kumar Krishnan, Yogamunīśvaradāsa; a registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 500) with Yoga Alliance and registered yoga teacher Yogalehrer BDY/EYU with German Yoga Association & European Yoga Union.
I have been doing Yoga since the age of 7. My first teacher was my father, ācārya Krishnan Ramasamy from South India, who was a priest, astrologer and Siddha yogi in a Tamil saiva siddhānta tradition. Realizing that I had joy in my practice, I always jumping-in with both feet joining my father’s haṭhayoga sādhana and spiritual practice. I was introduced to kuṇḍalinīyoga after my 19th birthday by yogācārya Paranjothi Subramaniam. After the initiation of kuṇḍalinī, I am practising kuṇḍalinīyoga, haṭhayoga and Siddha yoga. At the age of 25, I travelled to Munich, Germany for my further studies in Aerospace Engineering and was engaged as a scientific researcher few years in Madrid, Copenhagen and Berlin. Through the experience of the Western lifestyle, I realized, even more, the importance of yoga and mindfulness training for a balanced, healthy and sustainable life in a modern world and started exploring the diversity of yogic philosophy as a holistic approach to life. Since then, I have worked with different individuals from various backgrounds to provide them with this knowledge to live healthier, greener, and more spiritually-minded in accordance with the ayurvedic and ancient wisdom of saiva siddhānta.
In 2010, I attended a retreat with Tibetan master Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche in Bodhgaya, North India. Soon after the retreat, I realized that Buddhist meditation and yoga enriched enormously my classical Hindu view of the world. I learned a combination of prāṇāyāmas (breathing techniques) and flowing āsanas with anatomically based alignment for a safer body and supportive exploration of breath. In earlier years, I learned about saiva siddhānta tantric philosophy and Ayurveda principles from my father. Through my involvement in yoga, I have realized that different yoga practices suit different people and began my exploration with acceptance, curiosity and joy. From one point of view, yoga can be understood as a sport. But this is a reduction in the body aspect of practice. Full realization happens when the body and mind come together. Yoga is simply meditation in action.
In 2013 to deepen my understanding and knowledge of yoga as a lifelong tool, I studied 4 years at Yoga Akademie Berlin under the guidance of yogācārya Ananda Leone and became a registered member of the Berufsverband der Yogalehrenden Deutschland (BDY) and the European Yoga Union (EYU). It is very uplifting to become a dedicated yogi by continue learning the teachings of Rishiculture Ashtanga (Gitananda) Yoga of Yogamaharshi Swami Gitananda Giri. Currently, I am studying "The Yoga Step by Step Correspondence Course" led by yogācārya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani and a Team of 25 International Mentors of the Rishiculture Ashtanga (Gitananda) Yoga tradition from all over the world. Upon completion, it will be awarded a "Certificate of Proficiency" by ICYER and also an "Advanced Certificate in Yoga" by the Indian Yoga Association.
I combine the essence of Siddha yoga knowledge from my father with kuṇḍalinīyoga with the addition of mindfulness, awareness and meditation techniques of Tibetan Buddhism. Alongside it, also the elements from śivaśaktiyoga from yogācārya Ananda Leone and all core essence of Rishiculture Ashtanga (Gitananda) Yoga tradition by yogamaharshi Swami Gitananda Giri. My lessons are known for their sense of humour and dynamic teaching style with the ability to present the ancient wisdom of saiva siddhānta in a fresh and accessible manner.
