Namaste, my name is Avni (she/her). I am a Registered Yoga Teacher, and have been a self-practicing yogi most of my adult life.
I strive to practice and teach yoga in a way which celebrates the South Asian roots of yoga as a way of life beyond asanas (body movements) alone; for introspection, empowerment, and compassion. I endeavour to do this by integrating Sanskrit into my teaching, discussing yoga philosophy when appropriate, and placing an emphasis on pranayama (breath work) and meditation.
I truly believe that yoga is for everyone - if you can breathe, you can practice yoga. It is for all bodies, identities, and minds. I aim to create an inclusive environment, within which I hold grace with myself and others to learn from each other.
My professional background beyond the mat was as a Registered Midwife. Consequently, sexual and reproductive health, informed choice, advocacy, and body autonomy are all values that lie close to my heart. I currently live in Saskatoon, on Treaty 6 Territory and in the homeland of the Métis.
