Mirka Scalco Kraftsow (E-RYT, YACEP) has been a health practitioner and educator since 1974. She traveled and studied different modalities of dance, movement, psychology, and meditation in India, Europe, and the United States.
Mirka has been teaching in the Viniyoga methodology in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar since 1985 after receiving certification from her teacher Gary Kraftsow, and she has been teaching therapeutic benefits of Yoga since her certification in 1988. She has helped hundreds of individuals develop and maintain a personal practice and manage challenging personal and chronic conditions over the past three decades.
Mirka co-founded the American Viniyoga Institute (RYS), LLC with Gary Kraftsow in 1999. Her vision to train and support Yoga teachers was fundamental to the growth and development of AVI. She worked closely with faculty assistants and students to support their understanding, integration, and application of the teachings in their personal and professional lives.
Her main focus, currently, is to help advanced practitioners and professional teachers nurture a sustain their spiritual practices in the midst of demanding lives. Having trained and supported a community of hundreds of teachers over the last 30 years, Mirka is now focused on the needs of this community as Yoga has developed from and alternative practice into the mainstream culture in the west, and teachers have become professionals.
Mirka offers weekly classes in Sebastopol, California (Westside Studio) in between workshops, trainings, and retreats that she holds locally, across the U.S., and Europe. She is also offering a year-long series of teleconference programs (part of continuing education) to support participants any where in the world.
