Michele Vinbury is a co-owner of Yoga on High and Grow Yoga, two long established and thriving yoga studios in Columbus Ohio. She is a 500 hour certified yoga teacher with specialized training in trauma sensitive yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness practices. Her teaching draws on 15 years of direct-contact volunteer service with domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention and human trafficking agencies, as well as time spent teaching philosophy to male inmates at a medium security prison.
As the Director of the Yoga on High Foundation, Michele has helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars, co-written winning grants and added numerous Foundation programs. She teaches trauma sensitive yoga to survivors of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and sexual assault, to volunteers at a rape crisis center and to adults with eating disorders. Due in large part to this work, in spring 2013 Michele was honored with a Community Supporter Award from the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio for her efforts to support survivors and to end sexual violence in our community.
In 2014, Michele developed and taught a drop-in trauma sensitive yoga class at Yoga on High, the first of its kind in Columbus. 2014 also saw the launch of EMBER (www.Emberyoga.org), a 12-week mindfulness based resilience training that she and teacher, Marybeth Hamilton, co-created.
