I studied ballet for 10 years from the age of 8 in Ecuador where my mother ran a popular ballet school. In my twenties when I moved to Madrid, I qualified as an aerobic teacher. I loved the physicality of it and taught in Gimnasio Sandoval 9 hours a week for 5 years whilst also doing my Art degree.

In 2002 I moved to London to be with my partner and together we had a baby. The combination of handling a young child and sitting down for long hours whilst going to work as an administrator affected my back. I noticed my posture had deteriorated over the years, with my head tilted forward and my shoulders clenched into a tense and abnormal position. Doctors told me that some of my vertebrae were compressed and my physiotherapist recommended Yoga to ease the pain.

So, I worked yoga into my routine for 15-20 minutes every day. The improvement was quite dramatic as the pain from compression in my back eased and my posture improved. I discovered that Yoga is more than just learning to perform a series of movements, it teaches you to understand, listen to and appreciate your body.

My mental space also increased, and this helped my ability to tackle the day ahead. My shoulders and chest have now opened up and as a result I feel more centred and confident. When the pain returns, I know what I need to do to sort it out without using pain killers. It is a wonderfully empowering.

As with many things in life, Yoga is not a silver bullet and doesn’t work as a quick fix. By easing it into a daily routine over a period of time it brings better health and peace.

In 2019 I joined East of Eden as a volunteer which allowed me to practice yoga with Catherine Weston and James Cassidy.

Despite the pandemic, I went on to do my 200 hours of teacher training as a yoga instructor at Yoga London. This was an immensely rewarding experience. I learned under teachers such as Jessica Leitch and Annais Maniaval. And after hours of practice with teachers and other students, I understood that yoga is different for everyone.

The Yoga Philosophy I learnt gave me a clearer understanding of the Asanas (poses). From Jessica I learned to shake my Buddhi, to be more compassionate and understanding with myself. And from Annais to be focused and gentle. Her Yin Yoga class was an eye-opener for me.

Most of all I confirmed my belief that Yoga is not an exclusive practice for young bendy people. It is for all of us; because yoga reorientates the practitioner whoever they are. It helped me joyfully dedicate time to this wonderful container of my soul which is my body.

MISSION

Yoga helps to reset the body and mind, keeping it in tune with the surroundings and allowing it to be agile, capable and responsive. I would love to help you do this.

My practice is grounding, calm, mature, honest, creative, fluid and fun those will be the ingredients that I will use to flavour your yoga practice.

VISION

I would love to contribute and become part of a vital community of yogis where growing old is not an issue, and where our bodies are loved, lessened and respected. Where we are physically and mentally in tune with the environment and ourselves.
