Savannah Cussen Lizer found yoga in late summer 2012. After graduating from NIU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, Savannah was trying to find balance in her next phase of life. Yoga was the perfect answer for working out and staying grounded. As a beginner, she stayed with the same classes until her first teacher encouraged her to try a more advanced vinyasa style class, and from there her passion blossomed.
Over the years Savannah’s life changed; in 2015 she got engaged, adopted a miniature poodle named Wyatt, and moved in with her fiance. By 2016, she was married and working full time at a healthcare office. Eventually, Savannah was ready to make the transition of being on the mat practicing in class, to being in front of the class leading. In June 2017, she completed YogaFit Level 1 and started volunteer teaching at a cancer center for cancer patients, survivors, and their family members. Savannah completed YogaFit Level 2 in February 2018 and YogaFit Seniors in June 2018.
Wanting more knowledge in yoga history, philosophy and meditation, Savannah set out to find a 200 hour yoga teacher training, and was introduced to Katy Blum and the Blue Soul School of Yoga. Savannah started her 200 hour YTT in March 2020, but then COVID-19 postponed school temporarily. Finally in August 2020, Savannah graduated from the Blue Soul School of Yoga. She currently teaches in the greater Rockford area.
