Kenya DeJarnette is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS®). Kenya completed a nine-month Teacher Training Certification Program at Antelope Valley College with Kathy Bingham, M.A., E-RYT® 500.
Kenya teaches Hatha Yoga, Restorative, Gentle Vinyasa Flow and Chair Yoga. She is also a certified Yoga Nidra Facilitator (Integrative Amrit Method) which she completed 100-hours teacher training in compliance with Yoga Alliance standards. Yoga Nidra is a sleep-based meditation technique that harnesses the biological process of sleep while consciously awake for deep relaxation, stress reduction, restoration and overall well-being. As a Pratyahara practice (5th limb of Yoga), Yoga Nidra acts as a gateway to access a deeper state of meditation for self-discovery and transformation.
Kenya’s teaching style is gentle and restorative. She is warm, friendly and demonstrates an exuberance for life that is infectious. Her classes embrace the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit in an uplifting and safe environment. Kenya also holds a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies. She was drawn to teach yoga after experiencing a deep sense of connection, balance, and self-awareness she experienced in her own practice during her breast cancer journey and has a passion to share with others the life-affirming benefits of this ancient practice for modern times.
Her classes offer a welcoming space to soften, be present and explore. She crafts asana, pranayama and meditation sequences that respects students’ needs. The use of props is encouraged, and support and modifications are offered to those with limited mobility. Her foremost desire is to share the practice of yoga in a way that is accessible to all: to meet people where they are, as they are.
