Alma Duran, PhD, is an anthropologist, educator, and yoga and meditation teacher. She began practicing yoga in 1980s, and Zen Buddhism a decade later; she considers these disciplines saved her sanity and facilitated a long and successful career in the communication industry as well as in the academic world.
Dr. Duran has had the privilege of having studied with such gifted teachers as T. K. Desikachar, Fred L. Miller, Larry Payne, Gary Kraftsow, Matty Ezrati, J. Brown, Eric Schiffmann, Lisa Walford, Donna Farhi, Kavita Pippon, Andrea Fink, Gabi Theinert, Tari Prinster, Indu Arora and Swami Bodhichitananda Saraswati, among other well-known Yogis and Yoginis.
She completed her first Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Teacher Training successfully 1998 in YogaWorks, Santa Monica, California. After that, her experience has been enriched by acquiring additional training in other styles such as Iyengar, Power Yoga, Kripalu, Sivananda, Yin, Restorative and Accessible Yoga. Additionally, advanced workshops and her own yearlong personal study and practice of Viniyoga, QiGong and other somatic approaches to movement have greatly influenced her instructive eclectic approach: an embodied breath-centered experience adapted to the needs of each student. She is an Ambassador of the Accessible Yoga Network and a yoga4cancer registered teacher.
Alma offers yoga, meditation and mindfulness classes in Spanish, English and German language. Dr. Alma Duran is a Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT-200 and RYT-500 ) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with A Registered School (RYS)
