My journey into yoga began as a child and has continued ever since, practicing and teaching Yoga and Meditation. I graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Mumbai, India in the year 1991 but my curiosity and need to understand the meaning of life, the purpose of my existence on this planet (in view of the early death of my parents) led me to the fields of Fitness, Yoga, Meditation, Nutrition and Wellness.
I taught Yoga and Meditation to a group of women from various countries when living abroad in Africa with my husband during the period around 2000 to 2004. He initiated me into meditation back then in 1998 and has been a constant source of inspiration. Owing to all these years of practicing and teaching and the positive feedback and encouragement received from my clients and friends, I realized Yoga to be my calling and decided to take it further by exploring its various forms.
I am an E-RYT200 and E-RYT500 Yoga Alliance credentialed teacher and the owner and founder of Samsara The Yoga Studio (RYS 200) which is located in Pune India. I completed my RYT200 and RYT300 courses under the guidance of Yoga Teacher Neel Kulkarni of Saee Tech, The Authentic Yoga School, USA. He is a master in Asanas, Sanskrit language, Bhagavad Gita, Yoga Philosophy and has many books to his credit for which he received an Honorary Doctorate from the Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage. His book “Yoga Sutras of Patanjali – A Proper Translation and Chanting” is an invaluable guide and reading material for yoga philosophy courses.
I have a personal practice of Meditation of 20 years have experienced higher levels of consciousness. I have a good knowledge and experiential understanding of the Chakra and Nadis.
I am a certified Yoga Therapist from Gnosis Medical Yoga, Pune India, where i learnt about the therapeutic benefits of Yoga for Musculo-skeletal Disorders, Coronary Artery Disease, Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma and other Psychosomatic ailments, also euipped to help with Women's Health Issues, Yoga for Pregnant women - pre and post natal with 9 years of experience.

Besides i am also hold a Fellowship in Nutrition and am a Nutrition Educator and Wellness Coach.
I have been conducting Traditional Ashtanga, Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation classes for all age groups, special population, antenatal, children in my studio. With a strong background of Yoga Philosphy, Yoga Anatomy, Physiology I have the experience of training a lot of people in Yoga Teacher’s Training, Meditation Teacher Training and have been conducting certificate courses in my studio Samsara The Yoga Studio.
Yoga for me is about learning to live in the present moment, having complete acceptance of what our current levels are and grow from there. It is about Self- Realisation. There is a myth that yoga is for people with great flexible and strong bodies. These days the term ‘Yoga Class’ for most people means a place where people would be practicing physical postures, like standing on their heads and purely for physical fitness. The pictures on Instagram convey to the masses that they need to be strong and flexible to do Yoga. So a lot of people come to me hesitatingly with the query “Will I be able to do it’? Thus everywhere there is a lot of emphasis on the physical and Yoga has become more of an “Asana Class” a practice with fitness being the goal. Most of the students that come to me today to become Yoga Teachers want to learn the asanas, they don’t come with a desire to understand the theory subjects/philosophy. I conduct a comprehensive introductory session for them to make them understand what Yoga entails and what a Yoga Class is all about before they join.
I want to do my bit to break the myth that yoga is only for people with great flexible and strong bodies. Most of the clients that come to us today to practice yoga come with some health concerns, some physical, mental or emotional issues, which they want to get rid of it. Some are advised by their Health-Care practitioners to do Yoga.
Warm regards,
Shama Rana
