I am originally from Southern California and retired from the Marine Corps after over twenty years of service.  I turned to yoga for personal reasons after losing several close family and friends during an 18-month period, as well as to address ongoing personal health concerns.

My turning point was when a friend gave me a copy of How Yoga Works by Geshe Michael Roach.  Reading that book was life changing for me, I finally began to take charge of my life and health. I joined a local yoga studio, began taking yoga and attending as many yoga retreats and wellness events as I possibly could.

I enrolled in a Mind Body Wellness Program and dove head first into my 200 Hour teacher training.  Even before I was finished with my RYT-200, I received a 32 hour certification in Gentle Somatic Yoga through James Knight, and completed 32 hours towards Yoga Fit’s 100 hour Warrior certification consisting of “Warrior Yoga” and “Yoga for Emotional and Physical Trauma.”

My goal is to continue to use yoga as a faciltator for humanitarian causes that I am passionate about including organizations that support cancer survivors, orphaned children, veterans or marine life conservation.

I was honored to be one of the four winners of Yoga Alliances’ first International Day of Yoga contest for my proposal and execution of the event, “Saving our Warriors and Waterways,” held at Marine Corps Base, Quantico Virginia on 19 June 2015.  The $1000.00 grant awarded by Yoga Alliance went in its entirety to the non-profit association, Ocean Research Project to fund research on the effects of micro-plastics on our oceans.

I volunteer teach yoga three days a week on base to the military community to try and bring yoga to those that can most benefit form a holistic wellness approach.  I plan to continue to get more involved with the military and wounded warriors,”   Yoga made me whole again, and I I truly believe the more veterans we can get into yoga training, the more lives we could positively impact.

I love to cook, sew, craft, Stand-up Paddle board, sail and read!

Namaste!
