ABBEY HEILMANN (M.Ed., RYT-200) began her yoga journey in 2010 in order to supplement running. She initially practiced yoga to increase flexibility, but quickly noticed both the physical and emotional benefits of her yoga practice. After spinal surgery in 2012, Abbey returned to yoga to regain strength and flexibility. Through her years of practice, Abbey has experienced the therapeutic benefits of yoga for both mind and body. Yoga has helped her become more mindful and compassionate towards her own body and has helped her find balance in her life.
Abbey believes that yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of physical limitation. She encourages an attainable approach to yoga, rooted in alignment, breathing, and mindfulness practices that she learned while obtaining her 200 hour certification with Nina Be and Bart Westdorp of MindBody Centering Yoga in Durham, NC. She enjoys sharing her love and practice of yoga with individuals from all walks of life. Her classes include a deep emphasis on the integration of breath in order to allow the body to reach its full potential.
