Relax and Renew®

Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki II

In 1984 while studying architecture at RMIT in Australia, Mimi took a yoga class. It was strange, difficult and hard to forget. The lingering memory swirled around for several years until she had an opportunity to try it again in Boston in 1990. It was then she realized the pure poetry of Yoga and how it is a path on which all of our vehicles can navigate.  Mimi became committed to her path of Yoga as it facilitated her recovery from a debilitating low-back injury from dance. During her recovery she became absorbed in Yoga’s power to unify the body, the heart and the mind. Yoga’s radical openness and inclusive nature have continued to draw her in more deeply and into the complimentary practices of Meditation and Reiki.

After experiencing the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, she began meditating to more skillfully navigate the waves of impermanence that were so raw and evident. After cultivating her personal practice for fourteen years, Mimi now teaches meditations that are focused on mindfulness and tranquility. She teaches TMI and Satipatthana meditations and is about to embark on MBSR Teacher Training at the Brown University Mindfulness Center.

Mimi infuses her yoga teaching with a gentle attention to mindfulness, broad knowledge of the mechanics of movement, the body's energetic maps and the body's most efficient alignment. Never exclusive, she tries to balance the shear joy of movement with the spirituality of being and with the individual's unique architecture. Mimi facilitates her students’ embodiment by offering an entry into the world of sensations as a way of cultivating patience, acceptance and loving kindness towards oneself. She creates a sense of lightness and humor in her classes and teaches vinyasa, hatha, yin, and Relax and Renew restorative yoga. Currently, Mimi teaches yoga privates and corporate classes. She LOVES teaching teachers how to teach yoga in both Giggling Lotus Life School® 200RYT Teacher Training and her Yin Yoga Teacher Training programs.

Mimi’s Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki II training and practice compliments her studies of the body's many energetic maps. The power of touch in its simplicity, directness, and nourishing intentions attracted her to this caring modality that channels universal energy which is continually surrounding and integrating all living beings. Mimi provides in-person, mental and distance sessions.

Mimi's other work with embodiment includes dancing, drawing, painting, performance and sculpture. Mimi has a Bachelors of Architecture and worked on projects such as the Getty Villa in Los Angeles, Shapiro Clinical Center at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and the offices of Lippincott and Marguilies in New York City AND the beautiful Giggling Lotus Yoga Studio (now closed). She also holds a Masters of Fine Art and has exhibited her work in San Francisco, New York City, New Orleans, Nashville, Birmingham and Atlanta.
