Karen Macklin (E-RYT 500) has been studying yoga and meditation since 2000, and teaching since 2008.
Karen teaches with an emphasis on developing internal awareness, deepening concentration, and establishing a connection with the energetic body. Her classes are typically strong but slow, rhythmic flows that both challenge students and offer them an opportunity to enter a space of meditation and inquiry. She is committed to inclusiveness and diversity, and believes that yoga, at its best, is a way of coming home to oneself.
Karen has studied with a wide range of teachers, and has been most influenced by Sean Feit Oakes, Scott Blossom, Gary Kraftsow, Chrisandra Fox, and Jason Crandell.
Karen also has a background in Restorative Yoga, AcroYoga, Reiki, and Nonviolent Communication. She has also been studying Buddhist meditation for more than a decade.
As a professional journalist, Karen has written extensively about yoga and meditation, and has contributed to Yoga Journal, Yoga International, FitYoga, Yogagenda, and Tricycle magazines. She has also written three yoga blogs: Samadhi and the City (for Yoga Journal), The Sacred Cow (for Pranamaya), and On the Om Front (for the San Francisco Bay Guardian).
