Emily started teaching Vinyasa Yoga in Salem, Oregon in 2009. Though she grew up in Oakland California, the human body and its capacity for change became her fascination when she found herself injured in the Indian Himalayas, and the course of her life changed. After a 12-hour evacuation, she ended up in an Ashram with an incredible teacher name Gaurav Malik. They worked together to mend her broken body practicing yoga, meditation, Pranayama, and kiirtan chanting. Gaurav spent his time educating Emily about karma yoga, performing foot reflexology, and giving her books to read about Ayurveda. He is now the owner of Ashtak Yoga with his wife Kate Malik.
Emily began sharing what she had learned from Gaurav as soon as she returned to the states. After giving four free community yoga classes a week for two years, she decided to make this her life’s work. She attended the yoga teacher-training program with Tias and Surya Little at Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe in 2011, and returned to Oregon where she continued to teach Vinyasa Yoga, began teaching Prenatal Yoga, Postpartum Workshops, Pranayama classes and Yoga for Teens. She received her Massage Therapy Certification from East West College in Portland in 2012, and finally opened the doors to her business that fall: Be Well Body and Movement.

Emily spends most of her time at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland California where she is a candidate to receive her doctoral degree in physical therapy in June of 2018. In the little free time she has, she teaches free meditation and yoga classes at her university, sings in a choir, enjoys any type of movement be it yoga, dancing, hiking, running, or swimming, and spends as much time as possible cooking and exploring mountains with her husband.
Emily continues to take massage therapy and private yoga clients on the weekends and teaches yoga classes at IMX Pilates in Fremont CA.
