AWHI Yoga & Wellbeing is an urban sanctuary located in the heart of New Zealand's creative capital city, Wellington. Our studio's kaupapa (mission) is based on the Māori health model of Te Whare Tapa Whā, the four pillars of Hauora or Wellbeing. We feel that within a supportive community or Whānau, mindful movement and physical health - Tinana - can support our mental and emotional wellbeing - Hinengaro - and thus connect us to our Wairua - spirit or sense of connection and purpose in the world. From this holistic approach we aim to provide the support you need to live into the fullest expression of yourself alongside those you love.

We believe there are many ways to access wellbeing and that wellbeing needs are not the same for everyone. At AWHI, creating a diverse and inclusive space for all bodies, abilities and identities is of utmost importance, which is why we offer a range of classes from Vinyasa Flow Yoga (heated & non-heated) to gentle Yin Yoga, Meditation, Yin Therapy, Pilates, live music, Yoga events, workshops, self-development programs, retreats & trainings. We invite (and remind!) you to bring all parts of yourself to the mat, to listen to your body and honour your wellbeing needs, which vary day to day, person to person. We offer two yoga teacher trainings each year - 200hr Vinyasa YTT and 50/100hr Yin (with a Trauma-Informed approach). We are the only training in the world that combines Te Ao Māori and ancient yoga wisdoms, offering a uniquely 'Aotearoa' experience while retaining universal relevance for teaching and practicing yoga in any part of the world.

At AWHI Yoga, we aim to create a supportive community that celebrates and values diversity and belonging. We are proudly committed to diversifying yoga as a practice through our honouring of Te Ao Māori, and by creating an inclusive studio environment where all voices, bodies and identities are represented, supported and ‘awhi’d’. As part of this commitment, we proudly offer a full diversity and inclusion scholarship for our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training for Māori, Pasifika, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other groups who have been marginalised by the yoga industry, and whose voices are underrepresented in this space. The recipient of this scholarship will receive 100% tuition funding (or reimbursement of any funds paid) to our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training programme, which includes course training at our Wellington studio, all required textbooks, AWHI manual, and unlimited yoga at AWHI for the duration of teacher training. The scholarship does not include travel reimbursement, accommodation or other costs of living that might be incurred over training dates.

Work Exchange Programs

We offer one work exchange for each YTT, which can supplement up to 50% of the training fees.
