Inbodhi Yoga's roots go back to the year 1989. It was then that Larry Schultz, known as “Rocket Man”, opened his first yoga studio in San Francisco after spending seven years studying with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, who first taught the sequences of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as we practice them today. Larry’s mission was to make this invigorating and transformative practice accessible for his Western students, adding a playful element and thus breaking with tradition in some ways, all the while retaining his reverence for the original teachings. In 2021, Inbodhi - A Yoga Circle was born. All our founders have studied with Larry or his students and, between them, have run classes and teacher trainings following his philosophy and sequences in their communities for many years. Inspired by his time touring with the band The Grateful Dead, Larry developed the now world-renowned Rocket sequences, infusing our yoga practice with strength, flexibility and joy, and was known as one of the foremost yoga enthusiasts in the West.

The purpose of Inbodhi is to be authentic, committed, honest, humble, open to inner guidance, grounded in love, and connected in tradition, that we may share the sacred teaching of the practice of yoga, serve, support, and lead transformational trainings, therefore having a flourishing global community abiding in peace, trust, abundance, equanimity, harmony, spiritual freedom, joy and inspiration.

Our name has been consciously chosen to represent enlightenment, peace, our innate connectedness with nature, and the sacred Union experienced in the practice of Yoga. The Circle is one of trust, equanimity, transformation, and spiritual freedom. We ‘Inbodhi’ a collective community where all are welcome, neutrality and equality reigns, and Yoga is supreme.

Our vision is to be true to our tradition of sharing the Love of the practice. In this way, we will continue to offer classes, workshops and teacher trainings guided by the teachings of Larry Schultz, but also rooted in the older practices developed by Krishnamacharya, the ‘grandfather’ of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as well as insights gained from breathwork, chanting and life coaching tools.

Every one of our classes and trainings is a journey of transformation - expect to leave changed in some way as we ride the wave of the Vinyasa together.
