The Yoga School New York has offered holistic, traditional and individualized Yoga-Alliance-registered 200 hour teacher trainings and advanced 500 hour teacher trainings in the Krishnamacharya tradition for two decades.
Our yoga teacher trainings are unique, featuring:
- Small class sizes
- Year-long trainings, providing time to integrate the studies
- In-person classes in NYC, with online options
- Development of a personal practice, with mentoring by TYSNY director, at no extra charge.
We also provide ongoing workshops, group classes, and individual yoga therapy sessions. At The Yoga School NY, asana is more than just exercise. Our tradition emphasizes movement initiated by conscious breath, to ensure sthira and sukha—stability and ease—as we practice, and to invigorate, strengthen, and relax our minds and our bodies. Asana—physical poses—are considered preparation for pranayama and meditation, and even beginning students learn classic breathing exercises. As the historical, philosophical basis underlying yoga, the Yoga Sutra teachings are fundamental to our studies; students also learn mantra chanting.
Our teachings are informed by our direct study in this tradition with TKV Desikachar, son of T. Krishnamacharya, considered "the father of modern yoga." The Yoga School NY today continues under the guidance of our senior teachers in the Krishnamacharya tradition. Guta Hedewig is the founder and director of The Yoga School NY. She is a certified yoga teacher and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, as well as a Yoga Alliance registered E-RYT 500 and YACEP.
