About this Workshop

Brush up on the basics of Ayurveda to gain valuable insight to enhance your yoga practice and teaching. Learn about the 20 gunas, or the building blocks of Ayurveda, and how they make the doshas (body types) that align with the seasons. John will offer practical tips for incorporating these Ayurvedic principles into yoga class themes.


The yoga therapy components of John Immel’s teaching and experience are based on his Ayurvedic Practitioner credentials and are not derived from his status as a RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance Registry.

About John Immel, RYT 200

John Immel, RYT 200, is the founder of Joyful Belly and director of The Joyful Belly Institute’s Master of Ayurvedic Digestion program. He studied Ayurveda under Dr. Vasant Lad and holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University. He first discovered Ayurveda while working on a public health project in Bangladesh. John's interest in Ayurveda and digestive tract pathology was inspired by a complex digestive disorder acquired from years of international travel.
