Join the Local Community Initiative

The Local Community Initiative (LCI) aims to create a safe space for communication and networking, identify and support local leaders, and start a grassroots network that will become a united voice for the yoga community for any future regulatory issues.

We have partnered with Off the Mat, Into the World™ (OTM) to provide tools, training, and support for Yoga Alliance members who are ready to step into a community leadership role as part of the Local Community Initiative. We’re looking for yoga teachers, studio owners, school directors, and other yoga enthusiasts to become a part of this movement to better serve the yoga community.

This sounds great! Where do I start?

We’ve created a step-by-step guide for you so you can start getting people together in your community to spread the power of yoga! Here’s what you can do:

  1. Join our online community for the Local Community Initiative
  2. Find circle that is already underway in your community or start your own and begin gathering people in your community to join your group.(When you sign up for our new community building platform, Mightybell, all of our resources for the Local Community Initiative will be made available to your Circle.)
  3. Connect with your group to brainstorm the goals you want to accomplish (i.e. networking events, yoga in the park events, support groups for yoga teachers, lobbying your state legislature on yoga-related issues—ANYTHING can be your group’s goal)
  4. Create a plan of action.
  5. Follow through with your plan and achieve your goals!
