About This Workshop

In an older population, it is imperative to improve balance to decrease the risk of falls, which are common in day-to-day activities such as standing up from a chair, getting out of bed, or using the bathroom. Explore balance training strategies through occupational therapy and yoga therapy techniques and learn safe transfer techniques that strengthen the body and help prevent falls.

About the Presenter

Laura Staton holds a Master's Degree of Science in Occupational Therapy from NYU and is an IYAT certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) specializing in injury rehabilitation. She works as a Senior Occupational Therapist at a Northwell Health teaching hospital, and is the author of Yoga Bones. Laura is passionate about yoga's powerful effect on physical and emotional wellbeing, and how this interacts with daily life. For many years, she was a dancer and choreographer in NYC and received her BFA from The Juilliard School.
