About This Event

Creating an inclusive space in yoga means that all feel welcome to the practice, regardless of race, gender, or physical ability. Fostering this environment requires intentional action, including self-reflection and openness to unlearning many societal assumptions.

We've partnered with The Driven Yogi for this three-part series, hosted by The Driven Yogi Founder and Emmy Award-winning journalist Keisha Courtney (E-RYT 500). She's joined by Aisha Yusuf (E-RYT-200), an executive leader in social justice reform and Teacher Trainer at The Driven Yogi. This workshop introduces the critical work of creating more inclusive yoga spaces for people from marginalized communities. In part 1, we explore the meaning of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Discussion topics include:

  • Examining your own identity
  • Race & yoga
  • “Colorblindness” ideology

About the Presenter

Aisha (she/her) is an E-RYT, YACEP, and executive leader in social justice reform. She has designed, evaluated, and implemented innovative programs across the United States, within Indigenous and native populations, and internationally. Aisha has taught at many studios across the nation, and firmly believes all teacher trainings should prioritize creating learning spaces that educate teachers on the diversity of identities, ideas, and experiences of all people so that yoga students can feel safe, seen, and supported in classes. She is an EdD candidate at Johns Hopkins University and designed the inclusion in fitness spaces course for The Driven Yogi.
