We Need Your Help to Protect Yoga in Illinois

May 29, 2015

As you may know, Yoga Alliance has been working in states across the country to make sure that yoga teacher training programs (YTTs) may operate without unnecessary and burdensome government regulation. Recently, Yoga Alliance successfully advocated for the adoption of legislation in Arkansas and Colorado that exempts YTTs from state regulations and licensing requirements intended for “occupational” or “vocational” schools.

In recent months, we have been contacted by members of the Illinois yoga community who are concerned about the Illinois Board of Higher Education’s (IBHE) actions to regulate YTTs as private “vocational” schools. Like you, Yoga Alliance believes that this regulation is harmful to Illinois’ vibrant yoga community and to small businesses in this state.

Here's How You Can Help:

Yoga Alliance is laying the groundwork to advocate on behalf of YTTs in Illinois. As we assemble our team and gather information and resources, we want to hear more from you!

  • Let us know if you have been contacted by IBHE, are currently subject to regulations, or would like to be involved in Yoga Alliance’s Illinois efforts by taking our brief survey. The more information we have, the better.
  • Tell us if you oppose IBHE’s regulation of YTTs by signing this petition. Please also feel free to share your story in the comments section.

Thank you to everyone who has already connected with us. We look forward to working with you on behalf of YTTs across Illinois.
