Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Foundation Combined Financial Report for 2017

August 28, 2018

Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Foundation today released the Form 990s that were filed with the IRS on behalf of each organization and their independently audited combined 2017 financial report. The annual audit was conducted by Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman, Certified Public Accountants.

Combined revenues and support for both organizations totaled $9.67 million in 2017. Revenues are primarily generated through membership dues and are supplemented by other sources such as investments and contributions. Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Foundation are committed to using these revenues responsibly and intentionally to better serve our members and the public.

Strong revenues mean that Yoga Alliance has resources to support yoga professionals through benefits like program discounts and continuing education that directly benefit yoga schools and yoga teachers and that Yoga Alliance Foundation can perform outreach that helps bring yoga’s healing potential to underserved, marginalized, and underrepresented populations. Together, the two organizations are working to elevate the yoga profession and foster inclusion, access, and safety in our field.

As we communicated to you earlier this year, we have restructured our organization to better align the functions of the Yoga Alliance 501(c)(6) professional membership organization and the Yoga Alliance 501(c)(3) public charity within the appropriate entity. The sale of the Yoga Alliance Registry from the public charity to the member organization is memorialized in both the Form 990s and the combined financial report. You can read more about what this means for Yoga Alliance members and the broader yoga community in this fact sheet.

This restructure is one of several strategic changes the new leadership at Yoga Alliance has made over the past year to lay the groundwork for better service to our members. Some of the other steps taken include the Standards Review Project and associated requests for member input; development of a Sexual Misconduct Policy to provide better support for victims of sexual misconduct in yoga and due process for all involved; and the introduction of new members to our volunteer board of directors.

This is your Yoga Alliance. Members with questions about this report may write to us at info@yogaalliance.org, and a staff member will respond.
