Registration

How do I register with Yoga Alliance?
You can find detailed information, including step-by-step instructions and video tutorial on our How to Register page. Top

What are the requirements for registration with Yoga Alliance?
To register with Yoga Alliance, you must complete teacher training at a Registered Yoga School (RYS) at the 200, 200 and 300 or 500-hour level. When you complete your training, you will be given a certificate to submit when registering with Yoga Alliance. We are pleased to let you know that we have many RYSs for you to choose from.

You can find RYSs on our school directory by geographic region, city, state, style and more

RYSs listed on the online directory are currently registered with Yoga Alliance. Contact the Director of Teacher Training at the RYS to inquire about the program content, fees, schedule and style of yoga that they teach. Top

Do you accept applications from graduates of non-registered schools? Do you allow registration if the school was not registered when I completed my training, but is registered now?
To register with Yoga Alliance, you must complete a Registered Yoga School (RYS) 200 or 500-hour teacher training program.  When you complete the training, you will be given a certificate to submit for registration.  We do not accept applications from graduates of non-registered schools. Your school must be registered at the time of your program completion in order to register with Yoga Alliance. Top

When will I receive my YA Registry ID card?
You can print your registry card from your online account as soon as you complete your registration or upgrade. Login to your account and go to “My Dashboard”.  Scroll down to see “My Registry Card”. Click the green “Download Registry Card” button.  Open the .pdf file and print your registry card on card stock or plain paper. Yoga Alliance no longer prints and mails member registry cards. Top

How do I obtain my registry marks for usage on my website and in marketing materials?
When you log on to our website, you should be taken to your teacher dashboard. In the middle of the page, you’ll see your registry mark for your designation. Just below that image is a red button that says “Download Registry Mark”. If you click that button, a PNG file should start downloading. This PNG is your new printable YA Registry Card. Once downloaded, you can open the file, click “Save As” to save it to your computer, or click the “Print” option to print it out. For more details, please see the Registry Marks Usage Guide. Top

I am trying to register / upgrade, but my RYS is not on the list. What should I do?
If you are unable to find the RYS where you completed your training when you register, please contact the school's Director of Teacher Training to confirm the following:

  1. The precise name that the school is registered with. You must submit the name exactly as it was submitted for registration. During the registration process, you may conduct a search for the precise name of your RYS by looking for it by city, state, email, website or lead teacher name.
  2. If the school is registered with Yoga Alliance or was registered when you completed your training. We do not accept applications from graduates of non-registered schools. Top

How long does it take for my RYS to confirm my program completion request?
Once you submit your program completion request, an email will be sent to your RYS to confirm that you have successfully completed their teacher training program. Most schools approve requests within two weeks. Once your school approves your training completion date, you will receive an email from Yoga Alliance inviting you to complete the registration process. (Be sure to check your email client's SPAM filter, or set your email preferences to allow all emails from the yogaalliance.org domain.) If your school does not acknowledge your program completion request within two weeks, it will be put in a queue to be reviewed by the YA credentialing team. Top

I don't have a digital copy of my yoga teacher training certificate. What should I do?
In order to register with YA, you will need to upload a copy of your yoga teacher training certificate. You can either scan the certificate or take a picture of it with a digital camera or smartphone. Save the file to your computer in an acceptable file format (.gif, .jpeg, .png, .doc, or .pdf) and upload it to our website. Top

I am having trouble uploading my certificate. What should I do?

  • • Your file may have actually uploaded, even if your screen says “No File Selected” after uploading. Check to see if there is a green bar towards the top of the “Upload Graduation Certificate” section of your screen that states, “File Successfully Uploaded”. You can also check to see if your certificate uploaded by looking to see if the check mark at the bottom of your screen next to “Graduation Certificate Uploaded” is now green.
  • • Ensure that you have a file that is an acceptable file type. Our acceptable file types for certificate uploads are: .GIF, .PNG, .JPEG, .PDF, .DOC/.DOCX. If you do not have an unacceptable file type, check out this article on how to change it.
  • • Try using a different internet browser. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the most reliable browsers for our site. Our developers are working to ensure that all browsers work well with our site.
  • • If you’re using a Mac or apple product, try using a PC instead. For some MACs, the file type must be manually inputted for the upload. For example: sometimes you have to manually type the file type (such as “.jpg”, or “.pdf”) at the end of the file name.
  • • Try using a different computer. The one that you are using may have anti-virus or other software that is blocking your upload OR it computer may not have all of the necessary upgrades/updates. Review your computer’s user manual for assistance. If you don’t have access to another computer or are not able to update your computer, you could ask to borrow one from a friend/neighbor or access one at your local library. Top

Are my responses to the evaluation of my RYS public?

All program evaluation responses (including ratings and comments) are shared with Yoga Alliance and the RYS you are evaluating. Your recommendation rating (or "Net Promoter Score") will always be displayed on the school's reviews page on their public profile along with your name. There are no anonymous reviews and reviews cannot be changed or removed once they have been submitted. Your school has the option to hide or display the other ratings or comments you provide on their public profile page.

The evaluation system for Registered Yoga Schools (RYS) was designed using the best practices of online rating systems. One of the most successful means of building trust and increasing civility in a social-ratings environment is to prevent anonymous evaluations. This provides your school with context to be able to understand and act upon your feedback. Since your comments will be visible on the public directory, make sure your feedback is clear, respectful and constructive. Top

Can I evaluate my RYS if I registered with Yoga Alliance prior to the launch of the new online system?
At this time there is no way for past trainee's to evaluate their RYSs if they registered with Yoga Alliance prior to the launch of the new website and registration system. We've only launched the first phase of our new site, so the option for past trainee's to complete an evaluation of their school may be made available in the future. In the meantime, trainees may state that they have completed training with their RYS in the abstract of their public profile on the directory listing. Top

Why is my email address not visible on the public directory?

In order to protect members from scam and spam issues, the Yoga Alliance directory listing does not make teacher emails visible on public profiles. Yoga Alliance is working to develop a method for members to be contacted via email through their profile, where the email address will not be viewable to the public until a reply email is sent from the member. In the meantime, if you would like to include your email address on your public profile, you can include it in the “My bio” section. Top

Why isn't my Facebook page linked to my directory page correctly?
Our developers have hardcoded the “www.facebook.com/” into the field where you may include a link to your Facebook page. If you copy and paste your full Facebook URL into the field, it will duplicate that “facebook.com” part of the URL and will make it inaccurate. To fix this, copy the text that is after the first backslash of your Facebook URL and paste it in the “Facebook Link” field to send people directly to your personal Facebook page/fan page.

For example, if your Facebook page URL is http://www.facebook.com/page/ABCYogaSchool, only enter "page/ABCYogaSchool" in the Facebook link field. Top

How do I submit continuing education hours or teaching hours for upgrades?
You can submit your continuing education hours in your online account.

Enter Teaching Hours

  • Log in to your online account, which sends you to your "Dashboard."
  • Select the menu item on the left for "My Teaching Hours."
  • You should be on the "My Teaching Hours" page. Select the green button to "Add Teaching Hours."

Simply select the start and end dates using the calendar wizard (all dates must be entered in month, day, year format). Then, select the class type and enter the total number of hours taught during that time frame. You can group your hours by sessions, seasons, years or any other combination or time period that makes sense to you. You do not have to enter your hours individually by class, line by line.

How often should I submit teaching hours for upgrades?
You may enter teaching hours into your profile as frequently as you earn them. Some teachers prefer to update their profile after each class taught, and others log hours at the end of each week, month, quarter...etc. Whatever option you choose, the system will automatically notify you when you have entered enough hours to be eligible for an account upgrade. Top

Some of my teaching hours are missing. What should I do?
During the data migration to the new website, some teaching hours were truncated. For example, if you logged 1.25 hours (75 minutes) of teaching in the old system, it was truncated to 1 hour. You may correct these errors line-by-line, or you can simply create a new adjustment entry and account for the total missing hours there. We apologize for the inconvenience. Top

How should I group teaching hours when logging them?
There is no specific order in which you should log teaching hours, however, if you are working toward upgrading to RCYT or RPYT, you must select "Children's Yoga" or "Prenatal Yoga" from the "Class Type" drop-down menu in order for these hours to be applied toward that upgrade. Top

Why are my teaching hours not appearing in chronological order?
Our system does not automatically arrange teaching hours in chronological order. Please rest assured that your hours will still total correctly. Top

Non-contact training hours are not showing up in the total on my dashboard. What should I do?
Currently, only contact hours are displayed under the "Training Hours" heading on the My Dashboard page. To view your complete training hours, including contact and non-contact hours, select the "My Training Hours" tab from the left-hand menu on the dashboard. Top

Why is my RYS 500 now a RYS 300?
We now have three designations for schools, RYS 200, RYS 300 and RYS 500.

You can view information about the RYS designations here. A RYS 300 (which must also hold a RYS 200) offers two separate segments of training, permitting trainees to receive certificates after the first 200 hours and again after the 300 hours of advanced training. (Trainees who complete both RYS 200 and RYS 300 programs can register as a RYT 500). By contrast, a RYS 500 offers 500 hours of training without permitting trainees to receive a certificate until they complete the full 500-hour training. RYS 300 programs may also allow trainees from another school to transfer.

For detailed information, please review the RYS 300 article here. Top

How do I approve a "Teacher Trainee Awaiting Confirmation"?
If you are listed as the owner of a Registered Yoga School (RYS), you now have a new and very important role. Effective immediately, it is now up to you to confirm with Yoga Alliance that your trainees completed your teacher training program. In fact, you may have already received a couple of “Teacher Trainee Awaiting Confirmation” messages from info@yogaalliance.org.

Even if you haven’t held a teacher training program recently, some of your past trainees may now decide that this month is the time that they want to register with us. In order for them to register with Yoga Alliance, they will need you to take action and confirm their eligibility to become Registered Yoga Teachers.

If you are the owner AND an active RYT
If you are the RYS Owner and an active RYT yourself, then our new website may have linked your RYS and RYT accounts (only if the email address associated with your RYT account is identical to the email address associated with your RYS account). In this case, in order to access your account and confirm your trainees’ requests, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account (you may reset your password if you have forgotten it)
    • If you are a RYT, you will arrive on your teacher dashboard; choose the “My Schools” option at the bottom of the left-hand menu to load your school dashboard
  • If you have any pending requests from your trainees awaiting your approval, the first few will appear in the center column under "Open Program Completion Requests." Check the box next to the name of a trainee to verify the level of training and the date your student completed the training. You also have the option to reject a student's request if the information submitted does not match your records.

! Please do not confirm any trainees unless you are absolutely sure that the level of RYT they are applying for and the date of completion match your records for the training they completed with you.

If you are a RYT but the instructions above did not work for you, it may be that we have a different email address on file for your RYS. For example, if our email address on file for you as a teacher is ryt@teachertraining.com but your school is info@teachertraining.com, then your teacher and school accounts are not linked.

In this case, please use your RYS’s email address to log in (please note that RYSs with multiple locations should all be accessed using the same email address associated with the primary RYS location). You may reset your password if you have forgotten it; type in the email address associated with your school, and it will send an email with instructions for resetting your password. Then follow the steps above; clicking on “My Dashboard” will take you directly to your school dashboard.

If you do not remember what email address is associated with your RYS, please contact our customer service team by email or at 888-921-9642 to retrieve that information.

If you are the owner, but your RYT is inactive
If you are a RYT but you have not paid your annual renewal fee, then your account is inactive. Due to limitations in our current system that we plan to eventually fix, you will not be able to access your teacher or school profile and dashboard, or approve any of your trainees' requests for registration.

If you prefer not to renew your RYT, please contact us and we will help you gain access to your school profile.

If you choose to renew your RYT, you should then be able to proceed with the instructions above. Top

What if a trainee has outstanding requirements in order to complete the training when we receive the program completion request?

If a trainee has not met the requirements to complete the training for any reason, a yoga teacher training certificate should not be issued. However, if a trainee has been issued a certificate and they have any outstanding requirements when the program completion request is submitted, a RYS should reject the request and send a notification to the trainee with reasons for the rejection.  The trainee may submit a new program completion request when they have met all the outstanding requirements of the RYS. Top

What does it mean to be the "owner" of a RYS?
Yoga Alliance defines a RYS owner as the person (or the representative within an entity) who has the legal signing authority for a school – i.e. with tax documents and banking institutions. Top

How do I change the "owner" of a RYS?
Please follow the appropriate instructions below:

Adding a new owner

  • Log in to your account (you may reset your password if you have forgotten it)
  • If you are a RYT, you will arrive on your teacher dashboard; choose the “My Schools” option at the bottom of the left-hand menu to load your school dashboard

  • This person should now have access to this RYS the next time they log in.

Removing an owner
Due to YA’s wishes for enhanced security of your RYS account, owners can only remove themselves – they cannot remove other owners and other owners cannot remove them!  To remove yourself (or an old or outdated email address that is assigned as an owner in your RYS account), you must log in with the owner’s login credentials.

  • Log in to your account (you may reset your password if you have forgotten it)

  • Check the box next to “Syllabus Manager” and click “Update”

Can I upload my syllabus?
It is possible for RYSs to enter in their syllabus. However, we are encouraging RYSs to wait until we have increased the stability of our website before attempting to enter in their syllabus. Please check back for further instructions. Top

When can I send in my RYS application?
Unfortunately, we are still having technical issues with the school application and syllabus entry process, and will not be able to open it to everyone until February at the earliest. Leave your name and email in the form below and we'll contact you when school registration is available.

Can I see the RYS Evaluation?
You can locate information about the survey on our website here. Further information about the survey questions that your trainees will be responding to is posted on the website (you will need to be logged out of your Yoga Alliance account to view this link): http://www.yogaalliance.org/Next_Gen_Resource_Center/RYS_Evaluation. If you have not yet provided a syllabus in our online system, your students will be taking something that we call the “survey lite”. In the survey lite the students will only be answering questions 2, 3, 5, and 6. Top

What is the difference between a program and a track?
A track is a subset of a school designation for a RYS to register one or more training of the same designation type. For example, a RYS 200 can have one 200-hour track dedicated to teaching Hatha yoga or it may also add a separate 200-hour track, with a different syllabus, dedicated to Raja yoga. Each track includes a syllabus that outlines the content of the training and is reviewed by Yoga Alliance to ensure it meets our standards for registration. Each RYS has one track per designation and may add more tracks at any time.

Programs
are specific courses when your track is conducted. For example, your track might be a 200-hour Vinyasa teacher training, but your program might be the “2013 Fall 200-hour Vinyasa Teacher Training”. Programs include a name, set of trainers, start date, end date, track, and location. In addition, RYSs add trainees to each program as part of the teacher registration process. Programs are set up after you have an approved track for your RYS. Top

Why does a RYS have to upload a sample certificate for each registered track?

Yoga Alliance must have a sample certificate on file for each registered training track in case YA staff need to review an applicant's completion request. While a RYS must approve or reject a program completion request, if they do not respond within 2 weeks, the YA credentialing team has the right to review the trainees request. If the signed teacher training certificate matches the sample certificate on file, the YA credentialing team will approve the request, taking the certificate as evidence that the applicant successfully completed the training. Top

What is required on the sample teacher training certificate that must be submitted to Yoga Alliance with a RYS application?

Each certificate should include the name of your school, the level of training conducted (i.e. 200 hour, 300 hour, 500 hour, Children’s, Prenatal), the printed names and handwritten signatures of the Lead Trainer(s), and blank spaces for the trainee’s name and training completion date to be written or typed in. You may also include your school logo. Once your school's application is approved, the appropriate RYS registry marks may also be added.

How can I be a provider of continuing education?
Currently, Yoga Alliance does not pre-approve providers for continuing education. RYTs must simply ensure that continuing education is obtained from a qualified instructor and fits into one of our five educational categories.

For the complete policy, visit the Continuing Education page.

We do not require RYTs to provide any sort of certificate of completion or attendance record for their continuing education. Top

I have not completed a training since the social credentialing system launched so I do not have a rating. How can I get a rating? May past trainees evaluate my training?
Currently RYSs may only receive a review and rating from teachers who have registered with us after December, 2013 (the date we launched the new website and socialy credentialing system). Although current RYTs cannot rate their past trainings, if students from trainings prior to December, 2013 choose to register with Yoga Alliance in the future, they will have the opportunity to review and rate your training as part of their registration process.  In the meantime, we encourage you to include the following information in your RYS public bio:
We do not have a rating at this time because no students from our school  have registered with Yoga Alliance since the new social credentialing system was launched in December of 2013. If you would like more information about our school, please contact us.

Why do I have to provide Yoga Alliance with my trainees' email addresses?
Our new Social credentialing system – a blend of traditional credentialing and the best practices of socials ratings systems – will enable us to maintain flexibility and support the diversity in yoga, while also addressing the issues of oversight and compliance, as trainees will help report on whether RYSs are teaching the program they claim to be teaching. Providing a list of your trainees' email addresses is a request as opposed to a requirement, but we would prefer to receive emails at the start of a training program, because we think the feedback the students provide will be much more meaningful, accurate, and supportive to the school if they are prepared for the evaluation ahead of time.

Trainee email addresses are needed to support the integrity of the social credentialing system. Having trainee emails lets us connect with them to receive their feedback on the RYS they attend. Being able to reach them at the start of a training program is preferred because it lets us communicate what we will ask them to evaluate about their RYS, and to prepare them for that evaluation (the syllabus, lead teachers, and learning objectives).

Social credentialing also requires the identification of evaluators. Since we’re building a system with no anonymity, we need a unique identifier, and email is the best way to uniquely identify trainees. The system we’re building is a stark contrast to other sites in that it is created by the yoga community’s nonprofit, it will exist in a trusted space, and is built with three key principles in mind: no anonymity, objective evaluations, and actionable feedback. We believe this system will encourage growth and improvement, and empower the yoga community raise the bar for yoga teacher trainings and yoga teaching.

If your school chooses not to provide us with the email addresses of trainees, the trainee would create their own account, and then a message would be sent to the RYS asking you to confirm that this person completed training.

Upgrades

For Teachers:

I've upgraded to E-RYT and was invited to evaluate my school. How do I do this?
If your upgrade was from RYT 200 to E-RYT 200, or if it was from RYT 500 to E-RYT 500, you will not be able to review your school’s program.

In our new system, reviews are initiated after a trainee completes a request for confirmation from their school. This function is currently just for new registrants or people who are upgrading to/adding RYT 500, RCYT, or RPYT to their designation. Top

    For Schools:

How do I apply for an additional teacher training track for my RYS (a new syllabus or a different designation)?

    1. Log in to your RYS account. You should arrive on your school dashboard. (If you are also a RYT, you will land on your teacher dashboard. Click the link in the left-hand menu for “My Schools” to enter your school dashboard.)
    2. On the left-hand menu, click the link labeled “Manage School” then click “Manage,” which appears under that menu item.
    3. Scroll down to section labeled “Trainers” and click on the box to expand it. Add all the trainers who will be teaching sessions in your new track, ensuring that you’ve marked your Lead Trainer(s) and that your Lead Trainer(s) hold the appropriate E-RYT credential for the RYS designation you are applying for.  If you will have non-RYTs involved in your new teacher training program, scroll to the section for “Other Faculty” and complete all required fields to add them.
    4. Now, scroll to the “Tracks and Syllabi” section and click on the box to expand it.  Below your existing approved tracks, click on the green button at the bottom right to “Create New Track.”
    5. Complete the required selection/fields for designation type and track name and add your track trainers.  You may also identify your track with one of the provided yoga types, to help your track be found in a public directory search (select “Specialty Yoga” for prenatal or children’s yoga trainings).  Click “Create Track” to continue and begin entering your syllabus.
    6. When your syllabus is complete and you are ready to submit and pay for your application, return to the “Tracks and Syllabi” section and click on the “Pay Now” button at the bottom right.  Please note that your annual renewal fee will be automatically pro-rated to align with your school’s next renewal date for your existing, approved track(s).

    Directory

I'm having trouble finding myself in the public directory. Is something wrong?
In order to show up on the YA directory, your registration must be active, your profile must be published, and your location and name (either first, last, or spiritual) must be set to "public."

To publish your profile, log into your account, click the “My Profile” option on the orange menu to the left. Once you’re on the “Edit Profile” page, click the green “Publish” button located below your personal details.

You may update visibility preferences using the privacy settings in each section of your edit teacher profile page.

Please also understand the limitations of our directory search feature. Our new directory search is powered by Google, and as Google says, for a location to appear on an online map, “we must reserve a spot for it.” Thus, if you do a state-wide search for all RYTs or RYSs in Nebraska, Google will start looking from the spot it has determined to be the geographic center of the state of Nebraska, radiating outward up to 50 miles (the current limit in our “search near” parameters, which we are planning to increase for RYSs). Since Omaha, NE is located over 200 miles from the center of Nebraska, none of the RYSs in Omaha would appear in that search! While we work to resolve this issue, we recommend that you search by both the city and state (or city and province/territory) in which you hope to find a Registered Yoga School (e.g. “Omaha, NE” would yield a dozen search results). Top

How do I update my contact information and privacy settings for the directory?
To update your contact information and privacy settings that appear on the directory, log in to your account and click the "My Dashboard" link at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select the "My Profile" link on the left naviation bar. This will take you to your "Edit Profile" page. Hover your mouse over the box where your contact information is listed and click the yellow "Edit" button to make changes.  Scroll down to view and select your privacy settings.  Be sure to click the green "save" button to keep your changes. .Top

    Member Benefits

How do I access member perks and benefits?
To access your YA member benefits, log in to your account. Select the "Benefits" navigation tab and then choose "Member Perks" from the drop down menu, and you will be taken to our Member Perks catalog. Top

How do I become a Yoga Alliance partner?
If you own or manage a business that offers products to support the yoga community, we invite you to find more information about becoming a partner here. Top

    Fees and Payments

What does Yoga Alliance do with my fees?
Your annual fees keep our organization running. We have over 45,000 Registered Yoga Teachers and 3,000 Registered Yoga Schools as members, and the support and administration of such a large community requires significant effort and resources. We have 24 full-time staff members in an Arlington, Va. office who run all of our programs and handle the day-to-day administration of the organization. Along with staff, we invest in infrastructure to support you, including phone systems, databases, a website, and our office space. In the past couple of years, we have significantly enhanced the benefits available to members, launching an annual conference, member perks, online workshops and a new website. Learn more about the widespread transformation of our organization that we call the Next Generation of Yoga Alliance.

Although our 2014 financials aren’t complete yet, we project that the organization collected approximately $4 million in total revenue in 2013. That makes Yoga Alliance a fairly average-sized nonprofit membership association for the Washington, D.C. area, according to data from the American Society of Association Executives. However, that level of revenue is extremely low for an organization with almost 50,000 members. Here’s is how that money was spent (these are rough figures that will be updated when our 2013 financials are complete):

    Payroll and Benefits – 39%
    Annual Conference – 5%
    Website/IT Expenses – 9.5%
Rent and Occupancy Fees – 4%
    Consulting Services – 5%
    Legal Fees – 4.5%
Office Expenses (e.g., supplies, bank fees, postage, phone) –
    5% Marketing and Communications –
4% Board and Committee Expenses* –
    2% Online Workshops – 2.5%
Other General and Admin Expenses – 2.5%

(*Board and committee members are volunteers who are not paid any fees or salary. These expenses are primarily for room, board and travel associated with meeting attendance.)

We ended the year with net ordinary income of approximately 17%. After interest, depreciation and other non-cash flow expenses, our net surplus will be near 12%. In 2013, our surplus was devoted to pay the capital expenditures required to build our new website. You can also review our audited financial reports from 2005 to 2012, to see how Yoga Alliance collected and spent funds in previous years. Top

    What is the “membership assessment”?
You may have noticed that your fees paid to Yoga Alliance are now broken down into two parts: one portion is a “Yoga Alliance Registry Fee” and the other is a “Membership Assessment.” This is simply our way of accounting for the work and resources required to run our two organizations. The reason we founded a second organization, in 2011, was to deliver many of the services and benefits our members wanted, such as liability and health insurance, and issue advocacy. Under Yoga Alliance’s original charter (as a 501(c)3 public charity), we were limited in the range of activities we could perform. With the addition of a new organization (a 501(c)6 trade association), we’ve been able to provide many new services to members. For simplicity, we operate these two organizations under the same roof and maintain one point of contact for you to connect with us. The separation of these fees in your invoice is simply a necessary accounting measure that is required by Internal Revenue Service rules so we can properly allocate our resources amongst the two organizations that work jointly to serve you. Is my credit card information safe with Yoga Alliance?
    Yes, it is.

When you make a payment through yogaalliance.org by credit card, we do not store your credit card number or security information on our servers. That sensitive data is sent directly to Sage Payment Solutions, our credit card processing company, which issues an authorization code for the payment. After the transaction is completed, the only information remaining on our servers that is connected to your account are the date and time the payment was processed, the authorization code, and the last four digits of your credit card number.

Many members have asked us about the possibility of establishing an auto-renewal process for the payment of annual fees. We may consider that possibility in the future, but it would require Yoga Alliance to store sensitive credit card information on our servers. If we ever decide to do that, we will inform our members and let them know the steps we are taking to safeguard their data. Top

I always paid by check in the past, is this still an option?
At present, our system does not accept checks, money orders, or payment by phone. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, but there are some workarounds that could assist you in paying online if you do not have a credit card.

  • We now accept PayPal as a form of payment. To learn more about PayPal or set up an account, click here.
  • You might also consider a prepaid gift card (such as those offered by Visa, American Express, and Mastercard) that can be purchased from drugstores, supermarkets, certain retailers, and even some banks. Many of these gift cards can be used online, but check the back of the card in case there are any specific instructions (such as activating the card) that need to be followed before online use. Do you accept payments via telephone or mail?
Yoga Alliance accepts registration and renewal payments solely through our online system. We are unable to process payments over the telephone or any sent via mail. Top

My fees seem different. Have they changed?
Some of our fees have changed. You can review the fees associated with the different designations on our website here. You may also notice a difference due to a new date feature on our website.

Registrants can now select the date which they would like to pay through, and the website will prorate the payment the correct amount. Top

    Technical Issues

    What browser should I use?
Though our developers have worked to make the site compatible with all internet browsers, the Yoga Alliance website performs best when accessed using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Top

    Why won't my certificate upload?
If you've tried to upload your certificate and see a message that says, "No File Selected," check to see if there is a green bar towards the top of the section of your screen that reads "file successfully uploaded." If this appears, your file has been uploaded and you may continue with registration.

If the file has not uploaded, ensure that it is an acceptable file type. Our system is equipped to upload .gif, .jpeg, .png, .doc, and .pdf files. If you are using a different file type, see this document on how to change it to one of the acceptable file types.

You may also try using a different browser or device. While our developers are working to ensure that all browsers and devices work well with the site, we have found that Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are often the most reliable browsers for the current system. Trying a different device may assist those who have apps, anti-virus programs, or other software that can cause uploads to be blocked. Top

I am unable to accept the terms and conditions for registration when accessing the website from an iPad or iPhone. What should I do?
On the iPhone, the checkbox appears small and may be difficult to tap. Try to tap it gently and precisely in the middle of the box, but if you continue to experience problems, please try using a different device to complete the registration process. We have reported this issue to our development team, and are exploring options to make this step easier for our users. Top

    Teacher Training Programs

How do I find a teacher-training program registered with Yoga Alliance?
You can find Registered Yoga Schools (RYS)s on our school directory by geographic region, city, state, style and more. RYSs listed on the online directory are currently registered with Yoga Alliance. Contact the Director of Teacher Training at the RYS to inquire about the program content, fees, schedule and style of yoga that they teach. Top

How long does it take to complete a teacher training program?
The duration of a teacher training course varies from school to school—some schools do two week “intensives” for their programs, while some schedule their program every other weekend for six months. Check each school you’re interested in to see what schedule works best for you and your situation. Top

How much does a teacher training program cost?
Tuition for yoga teacher training programs varies depending on the type of training, who’s teaching it, where it’s located and other resources involved (i.e. special guest faculty, provided materials, etc.) Check each school you’re interested in to see what their pricing is. Some schools might even have scholarships or work study programs to help with the cost of tuition. Top

I would like to file a complaint about my yoga teacher training, what should I do?

Yoga Alliance does not currently investigate routine grievances. However, with the help of our Standards Committee, we hope to establish a process to examine issues related to violations of Yoga Alliance RYS Standards and/or Code of Conduct in the near future. Once this process has been developed, it will be shared with registrants and posted on the YA website.

We encourage you to contact and address any concerns with the school directly. Many schools have a complaint and/or grievance policy in place for this purpose.

Although we are currently unable to investigate all grievances, you are welcome to provide us with information about the situation. Any statements you submit should clearly describe the specific activities that are alleged to violate our RYS standards or Code of Conduct.

If you choose to share your information, please email a written statement and any evidence to support your claims to the Yoga Alliance Credentialing Manager at grievance(at)yogaalliance.org. Any information you share will be recorded in the school's file and may help to inform the development of our grievance process in the future. No further action will be taken at this time. Top
