Julia has been practicing and studying yoga and meditation since 1991 and teaching both disciplines since 2007.
Julia incorporates restorative postures and Ayurveda into her practice sessions with a strong emphasis on philosophy. She takes a therapeutic approach to both her group classes and individual sessions. She has experience working with special populations, including athletes, those recovering from injuries and illnesses, people with cerebral palsy, and more.
Julia holds E-RYT® 500, YACEP® (Continuing Education Provider) with the Yoga Alliance. She has many years of therapeutics and general study with Gabriel Halpern, founder and former director of the Yoga Circle in Chicago. Julia also draws inspiration from Desiree Rumbaugh’s instruction and the wisdom of the Venerable Bhante Sujatha. Julia also holds a certification in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell.
Julia and her husband Andrew ran a thriving yoga center in Chicago’s northern suburbs for more than five years. Julia is currently the creative director of programming and marketing for TBY Yoga, a place she and Andrew reinvented in the time of Covid.
Earning a degree in Broadcasting & Film with a minor in Sociology/Race & Ethnic Relations from the University of Central Missouri, Julia worked for more than a decade as a television newscast producer in the South Bend, Orlando, and Chicago markets. Julia blogs and writes articles about stress relief and mindful living. Among her published works is a children’s book, Just Me & The Trees, A Children’s Guide to Meditation. Julia is the mother of two teenagers and a rescue dog. She enjoys nature walks, plant-based cooking, trail rides, reading, and ballroom dancing.
