Kelly Postle McLellan has been pondering the “deep and hidden things” for as long as she can remember. She became a student of yoga while attending the University of Florida where she studied psychology and the mind-body connection. She went on to receive a Masters in Health Science Education specializing in holistic health. While in school, Kelly worked for www.artsinmedicine.ufhealth.org, a non-profit program that brought art to the patients’ bedside at Shands Hospital. It was during this time that Kelly witnessed the power of creativity and began to experience the presence of God through art and yoga.
She has been practicing yoga and making art for over 25 years now and teaching for almost as long! As a Bhakti yogi, Kelly is a lover of God and disciple of Jesus. She believes that “all truth is God’s truth” and is passionate about studying the Bible, as well as searching for God's Truth in unexpected places!
Kelly firmly believes in the power of yoga as a tool for integrating the person as a whole: body, mind and spirit. She understands yoga to be a spiritual discipline, using the practice to “still the turnings of the mind” in order to rest in the presence and perfect love of God. Her primary focus in teaching yoga is to help others to “remember what they have forgotten”, reacquainting her students with their bodies and helping them to recognize themselves as temples of the Holy Spirit.
As the owner of Getting Still Studios, faculty member at Montreat College, yoga mentor and staff-trainer for Camp Merri-mac, and guest teacher trainer for YogaFaith and the Yoga Abbey, Kelly teaches classes that blend the ancient practice of classical yoga with sacred Christian scriptures.
Kelly’s published works include the Postures of Prayer Yoga Deck and The Yoga Sutras through the Lens of Christ, (part of YogaFaith's Master Teacher training curriculum) which she has taught at yoga teacher trainings at both the 200hr and 300hr level. She is a contributing writer for Christian’s Practicing Yoga and the Christian Yoga Alliance. She is currently working on publishing her first book.
Kelly lives near Asheville, NC with her husband and their two teenagers. When she is not writing, or on her mat, you can find her hanging out with friends and family, homeschooling her teens, gardening, making jewelry and other art, playing with her dogs or reading and contemplating life’s deepest questions.
