Deborah (C-IAYT) is a bilingual lifestyle change coach who pulls her unique and broad-based love for teaching yoga and coaching her clients from her background and trainings that include the ancient arts from India, China, and Tibet: Ayurveda and TCM, combined with her love for new age science and research. All the above is lovingly described through life lessons from her dozen gurus in her book, "From the Boxing Ring to the Ashram."
While she travels the world teaching/coaching, her home base is now Austin, TX.
Deborah Charnes pulls her knowledge from all the above, along with her many decades of experience with hatha yoga, meditation, bhakti (devotional chanting), pranayama (deep breathing), and public health education to help her clients live their lives to the fullest.
Her 200-hour CYT was completed at Yandara Institute in Mexico, and her 800-hour advanced yoga therapy studies were with Kellie Adkins' The Wisdom Method in Florida. Her pre/post-natal training was via Bliss Baby Yoga in Australia.
She was trained in Ayurvedic massage therapy, Ayurvedic nutrition and cooking, and personalized Ayurvedic protocols at Sivananda Ashram in India. In addition to the Ayurveda certification, she holds certification in Yin, Restorative and Yoga Nidra, Acupressure, and Reiki. In 2017, she became certified (C-IAYT) under IAYT's new standards. Her mission: to help others live healthier, or productive lives: emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
Deborah understands firsthand the physical effects that can arise from a stressful life, along with the solution. Through adherence to the multiple branches of ashtanga yoga Deborah has reduced her blood sugar level and nearly eradicated decades of chronic GI and lower back pain. As a teenager, she recognized the value of deep breathing, and deep stretching, along with deep sips of herbal tea to lessen the outer influences and maintain a more positive and peaceful state of mind.
For the last few years, she has been working with people of all ages and with many physical or emotional challenges to improve their level of health and reduce stress, through simple techniques that can be practiced anywhere and anytime. Her signature workshops are Stress Busters, The Sugar Drop, Dem Bones, Chill Out, Chant and Be Happy, Yoga for Weight Management and Digestive Disorders.
Off the mat, she was a part of the San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Counsel for many years. She taught free yoga in the parks of San Antonio and at SíClovía and VegFest (Austin) for five years. Beyond the dedication to health, nutrition and fitness, she penned her "yoga-therapy-in-disguise" book in 2023, is a contributing author of two university textbooks, and has published several hundred articles for www.TheNamasteCounsel.com and many other media outlets.
She has taught private, semi-private and group sessions and workshops/mini-retreats in both English and Spanish, in the U.S., Mexico, Central America, India, and Italy.
