Julia has been practicing and studying yoga and meditation since 1991 as well as teaching both disciplines since 2007.
Julia incorporates restorative postures and Ayurveda into her practice sessions with a strong emphasis on eastern philosophy. She takes a holistic approach to her group classes and individual sessions, and she has experience working with special populations including athletes, those recovering from injuries and illnesses, cerebral palsy, and more.
Julia holds E-RYT 500 yoga educator certification with The Yoga Alliance and has years of study with Gabriel Halpern, founder and former director of the Yoga Circle in Chicago. Julia is also inspired by the teachings of Desiree Rumbaugh and the Venerable Bhante Sujatha and immensely enjoys learning from both of them. In addition, Julia also holds a certification in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell.
Julia and her husband Andrew are co-owners of a successful yoga center in Chicago’s suburbs, TBY Yoga. As a huge pivot during Covid, Julia now leads teacher intensives and teacher training and remains the creative director of TBY.
Earning degrees in Broadcasting & Film and Sociology, focusing on Race & Ethnic Relations from the University of Central Missouri in 1994, Julia worked for more than a decade as a television news producer in the South Bend, Orlando, and Chicago markets. Julia blogs and writes articles about holistic living. Among her published works, is a children’s book, Just Me & The Trees, A Children’s Guide to Meditation. Julia is the mother of two teenagers and a rescue dog. She enjoys nature walks, plant-based cooking, reading, and ballroom dancing.
