Steve Wolf is the founder of Awase Publishing (see www.awasepublishing.com) and author of several pioneering yoga nidra and guided meditation CDs, 'Relax Deeply,' 'Sleep & Breathe Deeply' and 'Savasana.' 'Relax Deeply' was among the earliest CD recordings of classic "Bihar School" influenced Yoga Nidra, and his second release, "Sleep & Breathe Deeply" was the first ever to use Yoga Nidra to promote deep sleep. A fourth CD, "Yoga Nidra for Kids Of All Ages," was produced in collaboration with yoga teacher and former studio owner, Emily Gretz. Steve also produced the best selling DVD, 'Discovering Chair Yoga - A Comprehensive Video Guide For Yoga Students and Their Teachers,' which remains the most comprehensive DVD of its kind.
Steve first practiced yoga in the late 60s' with his Brazilian aunt who had studied for many years in her home country. After experimenting with an assortment of classes over the years, his yoga practice solidified in the 1990's when he realized how much it benefited his other passion, Aikido. A devoted student of this philosophical Japanese martial art for over 40 years, Steve was head instructor at Northern Virginia Ki Aikido for 21 years. This art's rich philosophy and emphasis on relaxed, centered movement and balance strongly influences his yoga teaching style.
Steve completed his initial 200 & 500-hour teacher training requirements with Yoga West near Houston, Texas, and later refined his focus completing a second 500-hour advanced certification with master teacher, Yoganand Michael Carroll who was Dean of the Kripalu School of Yoga. In 2020 Steve also completed certification in Baxter Bell's 'Yoga for Healthy Aging" program. Other significant influences include: Angela Farmer, Gary Kraftsow, Erich Schiffmann, Rod Stryker, JJ Gormley, Judith Lasater, Doug Keller and Barbara Benagh.
Steve's active teaching schedule quickly resulted in an E-RYT 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) rating with the National Yoga Alliance. Steve is currently on the teaching staff at the beautiful Radiance Yoga Studio in Alexandria VA, and he currently leads weekly yoga classes for Maryland Parks & Rec. Steve also conducts workshops and trainings throughout the Mid Atlantic region. For over 40 years he has also been a professional musician performing throughout the U.S. and Europe.
