Sharon Kapp is a Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).
Sharon grew up in Pune, India, where her origins run deep into the cultural aspects of living an inspired life. She was naturally drawn to the sciences of Ayurveda & Yoga at an early age.
Her first encounter with Yoga came at elementary school when Yoga was introduced as part a Iyengar. Sharon fell in love with yoga from the very first Tadasana, and has been practicing ever since. She has had the opportunity to learn firsthand the teachings of this ancient land, with all its richness and deep culture. Sharon has taught yoga internationally where ever she lived, and is now here in the United States of America, where she leads aspiring students in the ancient practices of yoga that have been part of her culture.
She founded the Houston Yoga & Ayurvedic Wellness Center where she brings the two sister sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda together to offer complete balance to the mind, body and soul. She has been teaching for more than 35 years in the style of her cultural upbringing. Sharon brings a wonderful play of metaphor and imagination to her yoga teaching and deeply spiritual meditation classes. She has further pursued several styles of teacher training in the US to broaden her understanding of yoga as it has grown in the west.
She is trained to teach children through the Yoginos, Yoga for Youth program, The Kripalu, Yoga of the Heart program for Cancer and Cardio vascular care, Thai Yoga through the Vedic Conservatory, to name a few. But her heart is primarily in the practice of Hatha yoga, clearly reflecting the ancient teachings of her youth.
Her first introduction to Ayurveda came as a witness to the birth of her best friend’s little sister to an Ayurvedic Vaidya and his wife. The traditions that followed were eye opening and enthralling at the same time. She was an eager student observing and learning first-hand the Ayurvedic way of life as it unfolded. She would use this training as she grew her own family in later years.
Her adult years working a “responsible job” in the Corporate world left her somewhat jaded. Her career change led her to work alongside some of the best Cardiac Specialists, the effects of which drew her to a kinder and gentler way to fix the body rather than destroying it and rebuilding it again. The epiphany came as she watched helplessly her mother’s passing from breast cancer. Determined to prevent needless suffering and educate on healthy living, she went back to study; graduating from the California College of Ayurveda, as a Certified Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist, a Panchakarma Specialist and from their Ayurvedic Health Sciences Program. Furthering her knowledge, by studying with Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute. Sharon continues to study with various other Vaidyas to develop a deeper understanding of Ayurveda, Jyotish and Herbology.
Sharon is a licensed massage person. She has earned her certification from the Lone Star College in Cypress, Texas. She is a certified Reiki Master, a Vastu Shastra Consultant, and is pursuing the study of Jyotish to bring a complete holistic approach to living. She currently owns and operates the Houston Yoga & Ayurvedic Wellness Center in Cypress, Texas. She is also a member of NAMA at a the top level and also a registered member of IAYT.
