Peter Nilsson, the founder and Director of the Auckland Yoga Academy, has been immersed in the practice and study of yoga from the age of 30. Now at the young age of 66 he endeavours to live life by the principles of yoga. The Auckland Yoga Academy is a reflection of the culmination of this yogic journey of love and dedication.
Peter began his journey as an Iyengar Yoga student, he travelled to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune. It was here that he developed a fascination and life long relationship with the art and science of Pranayama and the importance of alignment of yoga poses.
Introduced to Ashtanga Yoga in 1993, Peter met the living Master Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India. Without hesitation and with complete faith and enthusiasm, he embraced Pattahi Jois as his Guru.
Over a period of 20 years, he stayed with his teacher in India 18 times, living and learning yoga for 2 months per visit.
Peter believes that yoga is a process of transformative change and not just a physical practice. He is currently studying the work of Amit Goswami whose work traces the decline and rediscovery of the concept of God within science.
