With his business partner Kirsty , Mike is a studio director at Fold Yoga at The Engine Rooms in Macclesfield Cheshire UK. The studio offers a variety of classes from beginners introduction to strong Ashtanga. The emphasis at Fold is community and personal development, with all students welcomed to practice in a safe, non judgmental, beautiful space.
Mike Sutton is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS). Mike has been practicing since 2013 building from attending a local studio once a week as a beginner, attending classes of various styles over the years, traveling to Croatia, Greece and Portugal seeking to expand his knowledge. It was Portugal whilst on retreat at Vale De Moses where the lightbulb moment occurred, under the expert guidance of Vonnetta Winter, Mike decided Yoga was really for him and decided to take on teacher training.
At 50+ this was not an easy task and after a few months of dithering signed up to take the 200 hour RYT course with Zenways under the guidance of Grand Master Daizen Skinner.
Mike's passion is to introduce those who feel slightly intimidated to start a practice and to slowly integrate and encourage the confidence of all his students to join group classes. Based in Zen Yoga but heavily influenced by Ashtanga, Mike's classes would be recognised as Hatha with the focus always where you are right now and to move mindfully and within your own comfort zone.
Recently qualified as a Breathwork Couch with Yogabody and Lucas Rockwood, Mike's teaching leans heavily on how we use our breath during and outside of our daily practice. Techniques based in pranayama but with a scientific twist allows each student to take what they learn outside of the studio and introduce it to help them in everyday situations.
Mike offers one to one guidance as well as classes and retreats.
