Mona Flynn, MS, RYT 500E, C-IAYT, has spent more than 25 years studying and teaching in the wellness and fitness industries. She earned a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Wake Forest University in 1987, and a MS from James Madison University in 1989. She is a Yoga Alliance registered teacher since 2003, a member of the International Association of YT since 2005, founder of Lifefit Inc., and co-owner of the Institute of Integrated YT, a school for yoga teachers and yts, steeped with Iyengar influence and Ayurvedic tradition. She is a YACEP provider, offering several workshops annually for yoga teachers and students alike to deepen their practice. In 2016 she published Essential Yoga Practice: Your Guide to the New Yoga Experience With Essential Oils. A two-week online class, Essential Yoga Sangha, based on the book, provides Yoga Alliance teachers 10 CEC hours. As a teacher, she applies knowledge from rehabilitative and alternative wellness practices into prevention methods, and incorporates the use of aromatherapy and essential oils for the benefit of her students. As a movement specialist, Mona combines knowledge and experience in applied anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of movement. She emphasizes attention and care for safety and for recognizing individuals’ needs, and educates and empowers students to prioritize self-care in their wellness practices.
Mona is a lifelong student of wellness, fitness and spirituality, and is always looking to improve her practice in continuing education and collaboration with others. She looks to lead her community in sharing knowledge and building relationships through public speaking, mentoring and community building efforts.
Outside of her profession, Mona spends her time at home gardening and cooking, and works with social justice organizations to help refugees resettle in the United States. She is a mother of two and lives in North Carolina with her husband.
