Welcome to Essential Yoga
I have balanced my love of the sciences and the arts all my life, and combine my knowledge of the life/health sciences with my joy in moving and performing. I started dancing at the age of 2 and haven't stopped since.
Practicing yoga gradually took a greater part in my life and as a life-long learner I enjoy diving ever deeper into the spiritual, emotional and mental elements as well as the physical aspects.
I discovered early on how being absorbed in movement helps to switch off from daily concerns, and continue to see what a difference "keeping moving" makes to our health and well-being. I now continue to build on that solid basis with decades of experience of different movement forms, aiming to help others find the all-round wellbeing that yoga can provide.
My 200hr teacher Yoga Alliance training included not only a solid physical/anatomical foundation but also meditation and philosophical aspects of yoga, which I enjoy gently incorporating into classes. I am a registered RYT® 200 Yoga Alliance teacher, and have completed additional accredited certifications in Movement & Yoga for special needs and those with particular physical and mental health conditions and in Yoga Nidra.
As an experienced business woman, in 2019 I also opened Space to Move studio in Plymouth, UK, with a friend and colleague as a way to help share this important, but simple, ethos to every body. I run regular classes there, as well as further afield in Devon and Cornwall, and live online.
With a focus on good alignment, careful transitions, and a linkage to how each person feels at any given time, Essential Yoga classes provide a thoughtful path to physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. I am particularly in tune with the natural seasons and rhythms of the wheel of the year and classes are designed to work with the varying needs those changing seasons bring. My regular Nidra workshops also incorporate elements from the natural world to help bring about inner change.
My classes are friendly and empowering with a welcome for all. I aim to create a relaxed, learning atmosphere, where each person can take their practice to the level they wish, and to provide a mix of energising and relaxing asanas/poses and pranyamas/breathing.
I also offer 'One to One' yoga sessions for all levels, either as one-off classes or as a series to help develop your own practice, and am happy to discuss corporate yoga offerings for businesses and workplaces.
