Shyam Metkar is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Yoga has been a part of my life since my teenage years in Mumbai, India. I started learning about Yoga by reading and observing the various Yoga Gurus like Smt. HansaJi explain about Yoga on their weekly TV programs. I bought and read some of the books on Yoga Asana and Pranayama. This was the mid-eighties timeline in India. In 1993 early in my career as a part of an employee wellness program, I was enrolled in a 7-day residential Yoga Camp at ‘The Yoga Institute’ in Santacruz, Mumbai which was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra and Smt. HansaJi. The 7 Day Camp was an experiential introductory course to Yoga theory and practice where one experiences a yogic way of life. It was ideal for anyone who wanted to live a Yogic way of life and experience the peace within. It also helped one to incorporate Yogic ideals in every field of daily life. The program covered Asanas, Pranayamas, Kriyas, Yogic concepts, diet, games, recreation, attitude training, relaxation and Meditation. Highly trained teachers conducted this course. It was a life changing experience for me and helped me get deeper into my own Yoga practice. During the same timeline, I was also fortunate to be in regular contact with Sant Shri MadhuShankar Maharaj of Malkapur in Maharashtra, India. Later in 2000, Shri MadhuShankar Maharaj accepted me as a disciple. He was a Spiritual Master of the Advaita Philosophy which was introduced in ancient India by Shri Adi Shankaracharya. This combination of Yoga & Meditation in my life was transformational as it led me to a better understanding of the spiritual aspects of oneself. I also bought books on the application of Yoga and Meditation for Asthma, Hypertension, Heart Ailments, Anxiety, Stress and Depression. My reading of the books gave me a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and benefits of this wonderful science and technology of Yoga.

In early 2000, I had designed and conducted a workshop incorporating the principles of modern management philosophy and Yoga for individuals as well as corporate groups.

Today, Yoga has been a part of my life for over 25 years and my personal practice has helped me handle all the challenges and curve balls that life has thrown at me with grace. Yoga inspires me to live each moment with mindfulness.

I have completed the Yoga Teacher training with Westchester Yoga Arts in New Rochelle, NY. I will always be a student of the practice and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me.

I plan to use my experience and knowledge of Yoga, Meditation and Modern Management philosophy to help create positive changes and better the lives of all those I serve.
