Kim Hankins is a 200RYT Yoga Instructor in the Tempe/Phoenix, Arizona area specializing in Vinyasa, Buti Yoga, Merge: The Practice, and Yoga for Musicians. She is also a violist and violinist currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Arizona State University. Her interest in the benefits of yoga (and other mind-body practices) for musicians, led her to create Movement for Musicians : a yoga-based project (rather than a specific practice) that integrates foundational movement with anatomical body mapping.
In 2009 Kim developed tendinitis in her left shoulder and wanted an exercise practice to stretch and strengthen the shoulder muscles while recovering from injury. She had taken a hot yoga class before, and remembered how challenging and rewarding it was. After finding an article on Bikram yoga and all the potential benefits, she found a local studio and began practicing every day. Three weeks later all signs of the tendinitis were gone.
Since then, Kim has been very interested in the mind-body connection and has explored a variety of exercise, martial arts, and yogic practices.
Kim uses her knowledge of anatomy and physiology in her approach toward teaching both music and yoga, and strongly believes that awareness is the key to improvement in any area of life.
She now teaches Vinyasa, Buti Yoga, and Merge Power Flow at ASU in Tempe, and Buti Yoga at B MVMNT in Scottsdale, AZ. Her goals are to always expand her practice and share her love of yoga in all its forms.
