Colleen McCown (LMSW, CSAC, 300hr RYT) moved to Oahu in 2005 after finishing her BA in Psychology, Sociology, and Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Missouri in 2004. Colleen has been an avid lover of dance and fitness since childhood and became enraptured by Eastern Philosophy in high school in 1999. Inevitably her path led to the practice of yoga. Through yoga, Colleen discovered the profound potential for transformation through meditation and movement. In 2018 Colleen earned her 200hr RYT at Open Space Yoga where she continues to grow her practice through additional teacher trainings, classes and workshops. Colleen graduated from the University of Hawaii in 2021 where she received her Master of Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in Behavioral Mental Health. Since graduating Colleen has received her Social Work License (LSW) and is a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). She intends to integrate yoga into her social work practice as an effective adjunct to more traditional modalities to soothe mind, body and spirit, ease symptoms of trauma, and help improve emotional regulation skills.
